Abstract
La presente invención se refiere a un aparato para distribuir mensajes selectivamente sobre una red de comunicaciones, caracterizado porque comprende:un controlador para comunicar sobre la red con una pluralidad de terminales del suscriptor en una pluralidad de aparatos del suscriptor servidos por la red de comunicaciones, cada una de dichas terminales del suscriptor que tiene una dirección de red;un almacenador de datos operativamente asociados con dicho controlador, dicho almacenador que contiene direcciones de red de dichas terminales del suscriptor y datos de perfil del suscriptor asociados con cada uno de dichos aparatos del suscriptor y que incluye datos demográficos;una fuente de mensajes comerciales;medio de selección operativamente asociado con dicho controlador para seleccionar por lo menos uno de dichos mensajes comerciales para la transmisión de por lo menos una de dichas terminales del suscriptor con base en los datos de perfil del suscriptor asociado con por lo menos una terminal del suscriptor;y medios identificadores operativamente asociados con dicho controlador para identificar por lo menos el mensaje comercial seleccionado con la dirección de red de por lo menos dicha terminal del suscriptor;dicho controlador provocando la transmisión sobre la red, de dicha fuente a por lo menos dicha terminal de suscriptor, de los mensajes comerciales identificados con la dirección de red de dicha terminal de suscriptor.

La presente invención se refiere generalmente a una televisión pedida a solicitud del consumidor y, más particularmente, se refiere a un método para distribuir mensajes comerciales y de publicidad en un medio como tal.

De conformidad con la presente invención, un sistema y métodos son provistos para distribuir mensajes comerciales a una terminal del subscriptor dirigible individualmente (convertidor) en una red. Los mensajes comerciales pueden ser distribuidos sobre la red que contiene información incrustada que identifica categorías de receptores para cada mensaje. Un servidor, centralmente ubicado en la red, selectivamente clasifica los mensajes comerciales con las direcciones de convertidor de los subscriptores, que satisfacen las categorías identificadoras. DESCRIPCIÓN DETALLADA DE LAS MODALIDADES PREFERIDOS
La figura 1 es una ilustración de diagrama en bloque general de ?n sistema preferido de conformidad con la presente
invención. Un centro de distribución de mensajes 5 comunica con una pluralidad de subscriptores 15 (se muestra uno) sobre un medio de red 17. La red descrita preferiblemente usa tecnología de conmutación de paquete de alta velocidad,, preferiblemente una conmutación de modo de transferencia sincrónica (ATM) de ?n tipo conocido. Un experto en la técnica se dará cuenta de que cualquier número de redes de alta velocidad convencionales pueden utilizarse. El centro de distribución de mensajes 5 controla la distribución y la transmisión de programas de televisión seleccionados, incluyendo aquellas estaciones de transmisión por transmisión, películas o programas digitalmente almacenados o grabados, y mensajes comerciales. El centro de distribución de mensajes 5 incluye ?n servidor 10 (descrito en más detalle después) que produce una corriente de datos que contiene la programación e información comercial siendo transmitida, así como la información que controla la distribución de la programación e información comercial. Cada mensaje comercial es un "comercial inteligente", en cuanto a que contiene información incrustada que identifica las categorías de receptores para el mensaje. En el procedimiento de incorporar mensajes comerciales en su corriente de transmisión, el servidor 10 entra a su base de datos y colecciones y coopera con el CMMS 11 para crear una programación de mensajes comerciales 31, que controla la selección y sincronización de aquellos mensajes comerciales a partir de la colección 38 que será insertada en la corriente de datos transmitida. Cuando sea, el servidor 10 selecciona la programación para un subscriptor particular, también reemplaza el espacio dentro de la programación 31 para los cortes comerciales acompañantes, apropiados. La selección de aparatos para recibir mensajes comerciales puede ser en la base de las estadísticas de los aparatos en combinación con los requisitos almacenados en la base de datos de ruta comercial 33, o los mensajes comerciales pueden asociarse con ciertos tiempos y datos de programación y/o ciertos de observación. Cuando ocurre un corte en el material de programa, la programación de mensajes comerciales 31 determina qué mensajes serán enviados a cada aparato, y el servidor 10 hará lo mismo al incrustrar la información de ruta de la base de datos 34 en su corriente de bitios. De esta manera, cada mensaje comercial tendrá la información de ruta apropiada asociada con la misma. La base de datos de ruta comercial 33 no pierde de vista los requisitos de ruta para los mensajes comerciales. Contiene dicha información en cuanto a la frecuencia en que cada mensaje comercial debe transmitirse a cada usuario o cada
grupo de usuarios y el número de transmisión real de cada mensaje a cada usuario o grupo de usuarios. Esta base de datos puede también asociar ciertos mensajes comerciales con ciertos segmentos de tiempo de programación o de observación. Cualquier base de datos o todas las bases de datos
33, 34 ó 36 podía mantenerse y continuamente renovarse por un servidor separado (no se muestra) o por múltiples servidores. Por ejemplo, la base de datos 36 pudo mantenerse por una red de servidores, cada uno al proveer información acerca de ?n grupo de aparatos que define su región. También se contempla que el servidor 10,. puede, a veces, ser requerido para enviar ningún mensaje comercial, pero en vez? para ceder el control a otra fuente de un mensaje comercial. Esto puede ocurrir, por ejemplo, cuando el servidor 10 forma parte de una red jerárquica y el tiempo ha sido reservado para la inserción de los mensajes comerciales por una estación local debajo del servidor 10. El servidor 10 después insertaría ningún mensaje comercial durante ?n intervalo específico, pero comenzaría a insertar la información inmediatamente al final del intervalo. A partir de la descripción precedente, se apreciará que como se determinó de la programación de mensajes comerciales 31, el servidor 10 transmite la información a través del transmisor 12, preferiblemente después de recibir ?n requisito para un programa en particular almacenado en la colección 32, o para ?n programa de tiempo real entrante, de un
subscriptor individual (posiblemente un sub-servidor) . El servidor 10 también puede comenzar a enviar la información en vez, con base en el día de la semana y el tiempo del día, y puede enviar la misma información a muchos subscriptores. En un canal digital preferiblemente separado, el servidor .1.0 transmite las instrucciones a cada subscriptor controlando a qué canal debe entrar para su siguiente mensaje comercial. El servidor 10 envía cada mensaje comercial a un canal respectivo. Cuando un corte comercial se encuentra en la programación recibida por ?n subscriptor, el convertidor del subscriptor .14 es controlado para recibir el canal comercial por instrucciones del servidor 10. Cuando el corte comercial se termina, el convertidor 14 vuelve a recibir la programación del servidor 10. Como ee describió anteriormente, el subscriptor debe tener ?n convertidor 14 conectado a la red 17. El convertidor 14, como se ilustró en la figura 2, recibe la información dirigida con la dirección de la red del convertidor por medio de un receptor de datos dirigibles conocido 22. La información puede incluir señales análogas a digitales. Solamente el procesamiento de señales digitales se ilustra en la figura 2, suponiendo que las señales análogas son procesadas por los componentes convencionales (no se muestran). Los mensajes comerciales y la información de control relacionada con ellos son las señales digitales en la modalidad preferida. El receptor de datos 22 preferiblemente regula y ordena la
información digital, deshojando toda la información de control y marco (incluyendo la información de ruta), en una memoria de alta velocidad (no se muestra) para procesar por ?n rnicroprocesador 24. El microprocesador 24 entra a los datos regulados y descomprime cualquier programa digital y datos comerciales, enviando los datos digitales descomprimidos como una señal digital a un convertidor de digital a análogo 26. El convertidor de digital a análogo 26 convierte la señal digital del microprocesador 24 en una señal análoga. El modulador 28 modula la señal comercial del canal por instrucciones del procesador 10 a la frecuencia de televisión apropiada para muestra en un canal particular siendo visto por el receptor de televisión 16. categorías de bienes y servicios, dichas categorías pueden estar limitadas a marcas específicas, son predefinidas, y estas mismas categorías se utilizan como parte de la información incrustada en los comerciales inteligentes. Al usar la propiedad o investigación sindicada, una muestra representativa de "cliente" o aparatos del usuario de alta frecuencia para la categoría de producto/servicio dada o marca se selecciona (paso 1). Esta muestra es lo suficiente grande para apoyar el análisis estadístico para la proyección de todos los aparatos de E.U.A., es decir, una muestra estadística. Al usar los datos demográficos, de censo y de encuesta, y otros datos disponibles, la información sobre estos aparatos en una amplia escala de categorías es recaudada (paso 2). Esta información está compendiada en una perfil estadístico de aparatos del cliente (paso 3). También, los mismos datos son recaudados con respecto a todos los aparatos (paso 4) y se crea un perfil estadístico de todos loe aparatos (paso 5). En ?n esfuerzo para caracterizar los aparatos objetivo para el producto o servicio, el perfil de los aparatos del cliente es comparado y correlacionado con el perfil de todos los aparatos (paso S). Las diferencias demográficas entre los perfiles son después notadas (paso 7) y cada categoría de información es pesada en importancia (paso 8). Por ejemplo, el peso puede utilizarse con base en un análisis estadístico tomando en consideración el grado de diferencia y frecuencia de ocurrencia de la categoría. Una calificación después se
establece para cada aparato para cada categoría de bienes/servicios (paso 9). Como un ejemplo, para un producto dado (automóviles de lujo), una calificación, y, puede establecerse de la siguiente manera: y = 0.040425*ft + 0.045920*B + 0.043766*C + 0.036453*D + 0.033336*E + 0.015284*F + 0.012396*G + 0.023163*H + 0.027470*1 + 0.018362*3 + 0.016994*K. El cuadro I define qué categoría de información, cada variable de índice A a K representa en una modalidad preferida relacionada a un mensaje comercial para automóviles de lujo. El multiplicador constante que precede cada variable A-K, es el factor de peso para aquél variable como se determinó por el análisis estadístico antes mencionado. El valor insertado para un variable en la ecuación anterior es determinado a partir del cuadro y la condición que aplica para dicho variable. Por ejemplo, si fuera un aparato de collar blanco, el variable B adoptaría el valor de índice para "collar blanco" en el cuadro III. Cada subscriptor es calificado llenando ?n valor apropiado en la ecuación anterior y resolviendo para "y". Mientras más alta sea la calificación, más probable será que el subscriptor compre el producto o servicio correspondiente.
Los variables A-G son variables específicamente relacionados con el aparato del subscriptor individual mientras que H-K son variables relacionados con la ubicación del hogar del subscriptor. Como se puede observar a partir de esta ecuación particular, la ocupación, longitud de residencia, y género son los factores más importantes para este producto en particular. Cuando un publicista está comprando tiempo de publicidad, puede especificar un porcentaje de corte de hogares para recibir su mensaje. De esta manera, si ?n publicista quiere dirigirse al 30 por ciento (hasta 30%) de los subscriptores (corno se evaluó por la ecuación anterior) para este producto, el servidor 10 solamente enviará los mensajes comerciales a los subscriptores evaluados que están dentro del 30 por ciento. Esto permite a los publicistas gastar los fondos de publicidad con más eficiencia. La figura 5 es un diagrama en bloque que ilustra una configuración preferida para una red de área amplia jerárquica que comprende la presente invención. La sección de RF global 50 es ?n centro de distribución para toda la red y realiza
substancialmente las mismas funciones como el centro de distribución de la figura 1. La sección de RF global 50 comunica con una pluralidad de secciones de RF regionales 52, también de manera similar al centro de distribución 5, cada una de las cuales,, a su vez, comunica con un centro de distribución 5. Deberá apreciarse, no obstante, que pueden existir uno o nás niveles adicionales de sección de RF entre las secciones de RF regionales 52 y el centro de distribución local 5. Esto se logra al definir un código de grupo objetivo representativo de cada tipo de producto o servicio que pueda cubrirse por un comercial y, como la información de ruta, transmitir el código o códigos de grupo objetivo asociado con el comercial, junto con una indicación de porcentaje. Un mensaje comercial para automóviles de lujo por lo tanto puede incluir el código de grupo objetivo para automóviles de lujo, junto con un "30", que indica que el comercial debe transmitirse al 30 por ciento o hasta 30 por ciento del grupo de clientes dirigidos para automóviles de lujo. Esto es el mismo tipo de información incrustada en los comerciales almacenados en la colección 38 de la figura 3. 1.- Un sistema para selectivamente distribuir mensajes sobre una red de comunicaciones, que comprende: un controlador para comunicar sobre la red con una pluralidad de terminales del subscriptor en una pluralidad de aparatos del subscriptor por la red de comunicaciones, cada una de las terminales del subscriptor que tiene una dirección de red; ?n al acenador de datos operativamente asociados con dicho controlador, dicho almacenador que contiene direcciones de red de dichas terminales del subscriptor y datos de perfil del subscriptor asociados con cada uno de los aparatos del subscriptor y que incluye datos demográficos; una fuente de mensajes comerciales; medio de selección operativamente asociado con dicho controlador para seleccionar por lo menos uno de dichos mensajes comerciales para la transmisión de por lo menos una de dichas terminales del subscriptor con base en los datos de perfil del subscriptor con por lo menos dicha terminal del subscriptor; y medio identificador operativamente asociado con dicho controlador para identificar por lo menos el mensaje comercial seleccionado con la dirección de red de por lo menos dicha terminal del subscriptor; dicho controlador provocando la transmisión de dicha fuente a por lo menos dicho subscriptor, sobre la red, de los mensajes comerciales identificados por dicho medio i«lentificador.
2.- Un sistema «le conformidad con la reivindicación 1, caracterizado además porque dichos mensajes comerciales provistos por dicha fuente contienen información que identifica por lo menos una característica de un aparato diseñado para recibir el mensaje comercial.
3.- Un sistema «3e conformidad con la reivindicación 1, caracterizado además porque dicho almacena<Jor de datos comprende datos de perfil «el aparato objetivo que itjentifican las características de los clientes reales de la materia de por lo menos dicho mensaje comercial, y medios para comparar los datos de perfil del subscriptor y dichos datos de perfil objetivo, dichos medios de selección que seleccionan los comerciales para la transmisión de una terminal del subscriptor en relación con la comparación entre los datos de perfil del subscriptor y los datos de perfil objetivo.
4.- Un sistema de conformidad con la reivindicación 2, caracterizado además porque comprende medios para generar dichos datos de perfil del aparato objetivo al comparar los «jatos representativos de la población general de los aparatos y los datos del aparato del cliente representativos «je los clientes reales de la materia de por lo menos dicho mensaje comercial .
5.- En un sistema pa a selectivamente distribuir mensajes sobre una red de comunicaciones,. dicho sistema que incluye una fuente de mensajes comerciales, y un controlador que comunica sobre la red con una pluralidad de terminales del subscriptor en una plurali<jad de aparatos del subscriptor servidos por la red de comunicaciones y que controla la transmisión de los mensajes comerciales de la fuente a los subscriptores sobre la red, cada una de las terminales «jel subscriptor que tiene una dirección <je red, la combinación de: un almacena«jor de datos operativamente asociado con el controlatjor, dicho almacenador que contiene direcciones «je red de las terminales «jel subscriptor y «latos de perfil del subscriptor asociados con cada uno de los aparatos del subscriptor y que incluye «atos «je ográfieos; medios de selección operativamente asociados con el controlados para seleccionar por lo menos uno de los mensajes comerciales para la transmisión de por lo menos una de las terminales del subscriptor con baee en los datos de perfil del subscriptor-asociados con por lo menos dicha terminal del subscriptor; y medios identificadores operativamente asociados con dicho controlador para itjentificar por lo menos dicho mensaje comercial seleccionado con la dirección de red de por lo menos dicha terminal del subscriptor.
6.- Un sistema «je conformidad con la reivindicación 5, caracterizado además porque dicho almacenador de datos comprende datos de perfil del aparato objetivo que identifica las características de los clientes reales «je la materia de por lo menos dicho mensaje comercial, y medios para comparar los datos de perfil del subscriptor y dichos datos de perfil objetivo, dichos medios de selección que seleccionan los comerciales para la transmisión «Je una terminal del subscriptor en relación con la comparación entre los datos «Je perfil «jel subscriptor y los datos de perfil objetivo.
7.- Un sistema de conformidad con la reivindicación 6, caracterizado además porque compremje medios para generar dichos datos de perfil del aparato objetivo al comparar los «jatos representativos de la población general de los aparatos y los «atos del aparato «jel cliente representativos de los clientes reales de la materia de por lo menos dicho mensaje comercial.
8.- Un sistema para selectivamente distribuir los mensajes comerciales a través de una red «je comunicaciones a por lo menos una de la pluralidad de terminales del subscriptor en los aparatos del subscriptor que tiene una dirección de red, que comprende: medios para asociar cada uno de una colección de los mensajes comerciales almacenados con un código de producto que representa las características de un perfil del aparato del subscriptor comunes a los clientes reales de la materia del mensaje comercial; medios para dar prioridad a dicha pluralidad de terminales del subscriptor con ro^.pecto a cada código de producto, con base en la conformidad «je los datos de perfil del aparato del subscriptor para cada una de dicha pluralidad de terminales del subscriptor a las características representadas por cada código de producto; y medios para controlar la transmisión «je ?n mensaje comercial «je dicha colección a dichas terminales «el subscriptor de modo que solamente las terminales de una prioridad específica relativa a un código de producto reciban ?n mensaje comercial identificado con el código de p oducto.
9.- El sistema de conformidad con la reivindicación 8, caracterizado además porque los medios para «jar prioritjad a dicha pluralidad de terminales del subscriptor comprende: medios para comparar, con respecto a cada código «je producto, los datos de perfil representativos de los aparatos del cliente con los datos de perfil representativos <je todos los aparatos, y producir un factor de peso con respecto a cada característica «je diferencia relacionada con la frecuencia «je ocurrencia; y medios para calcular una prioridad del subscriptor con respecto a ?n código de producto al analizar el perfil del aparato del subscriptor respectivo para la presencia de las características de diferencia y añadir el factor de peso correspondiente a la prioridad del subscriptor cuando está presente una característica de diferencia.
10.- Un método para selectivamente distribuir los mensajes comerciales a través de una red de comunicaciones a por lo menos una de una pluralidad de terminales «jel subscriptor en los aparatos del subscriptor que tienen una dirección de red que comprende los pasos de: asociar cada uno de una colección de los mensajee comerciales almacenados con un código de producto que representa las características de un perfil del aparato del subscriptor comunes a los clientes reales de la materia del mensaje comercial; dar prioridad a dicha pluralidad de terminales «el subscriptor con respecto a cada código de producto, con base en la conformidad de los «jatos «je perfil del aparato del subscriptor para ca«ja una de dicha pluralidad «Je terminales del subscriptor a las características representadas por cada código de producto; y controlar la transmisión «je un mensaje comercial «je dicha colección a dichas terminales del subscriptor <je o«Jo que solamente lae terminales de una prioridad específica relativa a un código de producto reciban ?n mensaje comercial identificado con el código «je producto.
11.- El método «je conformidad con la reivindicaci n 10, caracterizado además porque la prioridad especificada esta incluida en dicho código de producto.
