Abstract
Se revela un dispersante polimerico de pigmentos. El dispersante polimerico de pigmentos de la presente invencion, un policarbamato de poliester, se utiliza como una resina de molienda para incorporar pigmento a una dispersion de pigmento para composiciones de recubrimiento suspendidas en disolvente. Este dispersante polimerico de pigmentos es el producto de reaccion de un primer compuesto que tiene una pluralidad de grupos hidroxilo, un anhidrido del acido carboxilico, un segundo compuesto que tiene al menos un grupo epoxi y un compuesto de carbamato. Tambien se revela un metodo para preparar el dispersante polimerico de pigmentos. De acuerdo con este metodo, los grupos hidroxilo de un compuesto ramificado se hacen reaccionar o polimerizar con el anhidrido del acido carboxilico para formar un primer compuesto intermediario que tiene una pluralidad de grupos de acidos carboxilico. Una vez que se forma el primer compuesto intermediario, al menos uno de los grupos de acido carboxilico del primer compuesto intermediario se hace reaccionar con el segundo compuesto, que tiene al menos un grupo epoxi, para formar un segundo compuesto intermediario que tiene al menos un grupo hidroxilo. El compuesto de carbamato se hace reaccionar con al menos un grupo hidroxilo del segundo compuesto intermediario para preparar el dispersante polimerico de pigmentos de la presente invencion. El objetivo general de la presente invencion es desarrollar una resina de molienda que humedezca eficazmente a los pigmentos utilizados en composiciones de recubrimiento suspendidas en disolvente y que sea capaz de resistir las fuerzas mecanicas que ejercen los molinos usados par moler e integrar los pigmentos a la resina de molienda. Esta resina de molienda es ideal al resistir las fuerzas mecanicas que ejercen los molinos, ya que ofrece el tiempo suficiente para que con el molino se alcance el tamano ideal de particula del pigmento. Como consecuencia, pueden desarrollarse composiciones de recubrimiento suspendidas en disolvente que tengan una buena migracion de color, para igualar la migracion de color de las correspondientes composiciones de recubrimiento suspendidas en agua.Otro objetivo de la presente invencion es desarrollar una resina de molienda que tenga un peso molecular relativamente bajo y una viscosidad correspondientemente baja, de manera que puedan alcanzarse un incremento en los rangos de adhesion del pigmento, que mantenga al mismo tiempo una baja viscosidad para la dispersion del pigmento. Mas especificamente, como resultado de la viscosidad relativamente baja de la resina de molienda de la presente invencion, pueden incorporarse concentraciones mas altas de pigmentos a la resina de molienda para lograr incrementar los rangos de adhesion de pigmento, de la dispersion de pigmento. Debido a que hay una mayor concentracion de pigmento, un solido, en la resina de molienda, disminuye el contenido volatil de la dispersion de pigmento y de toda la composicion de recubrimiento. Tambien, incluso con los rangos de adhesion de pigmentos aumentados, esta resina de molienda presenta una estabilidad de dispersion superior a traves de una extension en la vida de almacenamiento de la dispersion de pigmento. Esta resina de molienda tambien es adecuada para lograr caracteristicas optimas de apariencia, tales como distincion y brillo, en una pelicula de la composicion de recubrimiento.
