Abstract

Se describe un anillo de sello (10) de un sello de flecha o de ejes que tiene caracteristicas de profundidad de micro-topografia (22), tales como caras onduladas o ranuras radiales, formadas en la cara de sello que definen una region de sello hidrodinamico entre las caras de sello opuestas. Las caracteristicas de profundidad de micro-topografia se forman a traves de un laser excimero (59) configurado de manera que la forma del rayo por lo menos tiene bordes laterales no lineales, los cuales definen areas laterales convergentes del rayo. Las areas laterales convergentes son definidas por secciones de borde laterales, las cuales convergen entre si y preferiblemente son no lineales. El rayo laser primero corta repetidamente a lo largo de la misma trayectoria del rayo para definir multiples cortes de rayo adyacentes que forman la caracteristica de micro-topografia tal como un valle de una cara ondulada, una ranura radial, o similares. A medida que el rayo laser corta ranuras paralelas adyacentes, los pasos de rayo adyacentes colateralmente traslapan uno con otro y mezclan los bordes de la ranura adyacente colateral conjuntamente. El metodo de la invencion proporciona caracteristicas de profundidad de micro-topografia que estan precisa y exactamente definidas para mejorar el funcionamiento del anillo de sello.
