Abstract

Se describe un proceso para el tratamiento biologico de aguas residuales que contienen amoniaco, en donde las aguas residuales se tratan con fango que contiene bacterias de nitrificacion en un reactor aireado, aplicando un tiempo de retencion de fango en el reactor que favorece a las bacterias productoras de nitrito con respecto a las bacterias productoras de nitrato. El proceso se caracteriza por la aplicacion de un tiempo de retencion hidraulica en un reactor operado continuamente, que es mas corto que el tiempo de retencion de fango, como resultado parte del fango se separa del efluente del reactor y se regresa al reactor. El desempeno de la nitrificacion se mejora adicionalmente al aplicar bajas concentraciones de oxigeno y nitrito.
