Abstract

La presente invencion se refiere al poliisobuteno de peso molecular bajo, altamente reactivo, con un peso molecular promedio Mn desde 500 a 20,000 Dalton y que contiene más de 80% mol de dobles enlaces terminales, y se prepara por polimerizacion de isobuteno o una corriente de hidrocarburos que contenga isobuteno en fase líquida y con la ayuda de un catalizador complejo de trifluoruro de boro desde -40 a 0 degree C y desde 1 a 20 bar, en un proceso en el que la reaccion de polimerizacion se lleva a cabo en por lo menos dos etapas de polimerizacion, siendo el isobuteno adicionado polimerizado a una conversion parcial de 95% en la primera etapa de polimerizacion y la polimerizacion del isobuteno ramanente se continua en una o más etapas de polimerizacion posteriores, sin o después del aislamiento previo del poliisobuteno formado en la primera etapa de polimerizacion.
