Abstract

La presente invencion se refiere a una celda electroquímica, sistema y proceso para convertir haluro de hidrogeno esencialmente anhidro a gas de halogeno esencialmente seco. El proceso de la presente invencion es util para convertir haluro de hidrogeno anhidro, en particular, cloruro de hidrogeno, fluoruro de hidrogeno, bromuro de hidrogeno y yoduro de hidrogeno a un gas halogeno, tal como cloro, fluor, bromo o yodo. En particular, en la presente invencion, el agua se provee a la membrana transportadora de cationes en el cátodo en varias formas. La presente invencion permite recuperar un fluido liberado en el costado o lado del cátodo de la membrana y reciclar el fluido recuperado de nuevo al costado o lado del cátodo de la membrana. De esta forma, el fluido liberado, recuperado, puede ser reciclado para suministrar continuamente agua a la membrana, por lo cual se permite que la densidad de corriente residual o de limite de la celda sea incrementada y/o controlada.
