Abstract
Un sistema de circuito de vía de ferrocarril que utiliza un sensor óptico, el cual emite una señal de luz de detección de vehículo cuando esta presente un vehículo de ferrocarril en una sección de la vía. También se genera una señal de luz de referencia mediante una fuente de emisión de luz. Un detector en comunicación óptica con el sensor óptico, recibe la señal de luz de detección de vehículo. La información contenida en la señal de luz de detección de vehículo, es interpretada por un procesador, para detectar el vehículo de ferrocarril. En las modalidades actualmente preferidas el sensor puede incluir un conductor de fibra óptica alargado que se extiende a lo largo de la sección de la vía, o una pluralidad de sensores localizados en cascada. El elemento sensor puede utilizarse en general como un medio de comunicación para pasar datos de comunicación entre los opuestos de la sección de la vía. Dependiendo de las exigencias de la aplicación particular, el elemento sensor se puede localizar adentro de la sección de la vía en un número de maneras.
