Abstract
Un método que incluye poner en contacto una corriente orgánica con agua y dióxido de carbono, mediante la cual el sodio se extrae de la corriente orgánica, y separar una fase acuosa que contiene sal sódica de una fase orgánica que comprende un contenido reducido de sodio. La corriente orgánica puede ser un residuo pesado formado en la coproducción de óxido de propileno y estireno. El contacto puede incluir combinar el dióxido de carbono con el agua para formar una corriente de agua saturada con CO2 y poner en contacto la corriente de agua saturada con CO2 con la corriente orgánica, y/o combinar la corriente orgánica y el agua para formar una mezcla e inyectar el dióxido de carbono como un gas en la mezcla. El método puede incluir, además, repetir el contacto y la separación una o más veces en la fase orgánica, someter la fase orgánica a intercambio iónico o ambos, para obtener una fase orgánica que tiene un contenido de sodio reducido adicional. También se proporciona un sistema para llevar a cabo el método.
