Abstract

La presente invención se refiere a métodos para identificar plantas de frijol tolerantes a sequía. Dicho método está basado en la evaluación molecular y fisiológica de plantas que son expuestas a estrés hídrico. Para la evaluación molecular se identifican y cuantifican los mRNAs de genes que se acumulan bajo estrés hídrico y para la evaluación fisiológica se midió la fotosíntesis. Para desarrollar la presente invención, se tomó como modelo de estudio la variedad de frijol Pinto Villa del cual por hibridación sustractiva supresiva se identificaron diversas secuencias nucleotídicas diferentes de 44 genes que se sobreexpresan en las plantas de frijol cuando éstas son expuestas a estrés hídrico, por lo que representa la utilidad de emplear dichas secuencias como marcadores moleculares útiles para identificar plantas de frijol tolerantes a sequía. Esta invención permite asistir la selección de plantas tolerantes a sequía con marcadores moleculares y parámetros fisiológicos en plántulas de frijol, sin tener que esperar a que ocurra todo su ciclo de vida, reduciendo sensiblemente el tiempo de identificación de las plantas tolerantes a sequía.
