Abstract

La invención se refiere a un método para producir el polímero final A que contiene los pasos (A) proveer un polímero de partida V, el polímero de partida V pudiéndose obtener mediante polimerización por radicales de los monómeros (i) 25 a 90% molar de un monómero de la fórmula (I) (ver fórmula I), en la que R1 denota H o alquilo de C1-C6, (ii) 3 a 65% molar de un éster de alquilo de C1-C4 de ácido acrílico o de un éster de alquilo de C1-C4 de ácido metacrílico, (iii) 1 a 45% molar de un ácido carboxílico monoetilénicamente insaturado, un ácido sulfónico monoetilénicamente insaturado o un ácido fosfónico monoetilénicamente insaturado, o formas de sal de los mismos, (iv) 0 a 35% molar de uno o más monómeros etilénicamente insaturados que son diferentes de un monómero (i), (ii) y (iii), en donde la cantidad total de todos los monómeros (i), (ii), (iii) y (iv) es 100% molar, y (B) hidrolizar el polímero de partida V provisto bajo condiciones alcalinas para obtener el polímero final A, en donde los grupos NC(=O)R1 de la fórmula (I) al menos parcialmente hidrolizan los monómeros (i) polimerizados en el polímero V empezando a forman grupos amino primarios. Ciertos polímeros finales A obtenidos son útiles para un método para producir papel o cartón que comprende añadir ciertos polímeros finales A a una primera suspensión acuosa de pulpa, deshidratar la segunda suspensión acuosa de pulpa obtenida que contiene ciertos polímeros finales A sobre un sustrato permeable al agua a una estructura de papel húmeda y deshidratar adicionalmente la estructura de papel húmeda en papel o cartón. El papel o cartón resultante tiene una buena resistencia en seco.
