Abstract

Se presenta un proceso para modificar la superficie de un polímero que contiene silicio, el proceso que comprende las etapas de: embeber un monómero zwiteriónico o un iniciador de radicales libres en un polímero que contiene silicio en una mezcla de imbibición que comprende el polímero que tiene silicio, por lo menos uno del monómero zwiteriónico y el iniciador de radicales libres, y un sistema de solvente; y polimerizar el monómero zwiteriónico para modificar la superficie del polímero que contiene silicio con un polímero zwiteriónico en una mezcla de reacción de polimerización que comprende el polímero que contiene silicio embebido, un sistema de solvente y el monómero zwiteriónico o el iniciador de radicales libres, la mezcla de reacción de polimerización que tiene una composición que difiere de la composición de la mezcla de imbibición. Tal proceso se puede aplicar para preparar dispositivos médicos tal como lente de contacto que tiene una superficie biocompatible, humectable. También se describen procesos para producir tales dispositivos.
