Abstract

Esta invención se relaciona con procesos para la eliminación selectiva de contaminantes de gases efluentes. Más particularmente, algunas modalidades de la presente invención se relacionan con la eliminación y la recuperación selectiva de dióxido de azufre a partir de gases efluentes en un proceso de absorción/desorción de dióxido de azufre que usa una solución de absorción acuosa amortiguada que comprende ciertos ácidos orgánicos e inorgánicos débiles o sales de estos, preferentemente, ciertos ácidos carboxílicos polipróticos o sales de estos, para absorber selectivamente dióxido de azufre del gas efluente. Podrían usarse inhibidores de oxidación. Subsiguientemente, el dióxido de azufre absorbido se extrae para regenerar la solución de absorción y producir un gas enriquecido en contenido de dióxido de azufre. La regeneración de la solución de absorción podría incluir un sistema de bomba de calor y extractor de dióxido de azufre integrado para proporcionar una eficiencia de energía mejorada. Otras modalidades de la presente invención se relacionan con un proceso para la eliminación simultánea de dióxido de azufre y óxidos de nitrógeno (NOx) de gases efluentes y la recuperación de dióxido de azufre. El proceso usa una solución de absorción acuosa amortiguada que incluye, además, un quelato metálico para absorber dióxido de azufre y NOx del gas y, subsiguientemente, reducir el NO absorbido para formar nitrógeno. Además, la presente invención proporciona un proceso para controlar la concentración de contaminante de sal de sulfato en la solución de absorción mediante la cristalización parcial y la eliminación de los cristales de sal de sulfato.
