Abstract
Se proporcionan métodos y composiciones que emplean un elemento de silenciamiento que, cuando es ingerido por una peste, tal como una peste del orden Lepidoptera, son capaces de disminuir la expresión de una secuencia objetivo en la peste. En modalidades específicas, la disminución en la expresión de la secuencia objetivo controla la peste y de esta manera los métodos y composiciones son capaces de limitar el daño a una planta. La presente invención proporciona polinucleótidos objetivo que codifican polipéptidos de las familias de proteína específicas y varios polinucleótidos objetivo expuestos en la SEQ ID NO:1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31, 32, 33, 34, 35, 36, 37, 38, 39, 40, 41, 42, 43, 44, 45, 46, 47, 48, 49 o 50 o variantes activas y fragmentos de las mismas, en donde una disminución en la expresión de una o más de las secuencias en la peste objetivo controla la peste (es decir, tiene actividad insecticida). Además se proporcionan elementos de silenciamiento que cuando son ingeridos por la peste disminuyen el nivel del polipéptido objetivo y de esta manera controlan la peste. En una modalidad específica, la peste es Spodoptera frugiperda. También se proporcionan plantas, partes de planta, bacterias y otras células hospederas que comprenden los elementos de silenciamiento o una variante activa o fragmento de los mismos de la invención.
