Abstract

La presente invención se refiere a un metodo para el tratamiento del ácido acetico para mejorar su tiempo de permanganato, en donde el ácido acetico contiene impurezas seleccionadas de los haluros, insaturados, carbonilos y sus mezclas, la mejora consiste en que se sujeta al ácido a una hidrogenación en la presencia de hidrógeno y 0.01 a 10 por ciento en peso de un catalizador de hidrogenación a temperaturas que van de alrededor de 17 a 200 grados C durante un periodo de tiempo suficiente para hidrogenar las impurezas, y posteriormente, recobrar un producto de ácido acetico que contiene un tiempo mejorado de permanganato.
