Abstract

La presente invención se refiere a un método para elaborar un hierro colado dúctil o semidúctil, fácilmente maquinable, de resistencia elevada, que comprende: (a) formar una fusión de aleación ferrosa que consiste esencialmente, en peso, de 3-4 por ciento de carbono, 2.0-3.0 por ciento de silicio, 0.1-0.9 por ciento de manganeso, hasta 0.02 por ciento de fósforo, hasta 0.002 por ciento de azufre, hasta 1 por ciento de contaminantes o impurezas, 0-0.4 por ciento de molibdeno, 0-3.0 por ciento de níquel o cobre y, el resto esencialmente hierro, la fusión siendo sometida a un agente de modificación de grafito, en una cantidad y durante un período de tiempo efectivos para formar ya sea hierro dúctil o semidúctil durante la solidificación; (b) tratar térmicamente la solidificación de la fusión mediante austemple, para formar una matriz que consiste substancialmente de austenita al alto carbono ferrita y un límite de celda que tiene austenita al bajo carbono sin reaccionar; (c) calentar el hierro austemplado a una temperatura de formación de perlita y mantener a dicha temperatura para permitir que la austenita al bajo carbono, no reaccionada forme perlita; y (d) enfriar el hierro térmicamente tratado a temperatura ambiente.
