Abstract

본 발명은 저장되어질 데이타 카트리지(a data cartridge) 또는 기타의 제품(other item)에 대해 기계 및 인간이 판독가능한 정보(machine and human readable information)를 제공한다. 일 실시예에 있어서, 인간이 판독가능한 정보가 인쇄 또는 유사한 방법으로 표시된 라벨(a label)은 카트리지의 표시 영역(an indicator area)을 덮도록 부착된다. 이 카트리지의 표시 영역은 그내에 형성된 요부(recesses)를 갖고; 상기 라벨의 표시 영역상의 대응 위치는 요부위를 덮고 또한 개방되거나 또는 폐쇄된다. 개방 위치는 데이타 드라이브(a data drive)상의 기계식 스프링 가압형 핑거(a mechanical, spring-loaded finger)가 노출된 요부와 결합되게 하여, 접속 스위치(a connected switch)를 작동 또는 비작동시키도록 한다. 따라서, 인간이 판독가능한 인쇄된 정보와 일치된 정보가 라벨상에 인코딩되고 데이타 드라이브에 의해 기계의 판독이 이루어지게 된다.

Claims (14)

  1. 외면에 표시 영역(an indicator area)을 가지며, 상기 표시 영역은 그 내에 형성된 Z개의 요부(a number Z recesses)를 포함하고, Z은 적어도 1인 하우징(a housing)과; 상기 외면의 상기 표시 영역을 적어도 덮는 라벨(a label)로서, 상기 라벨은; 인간이 판독가능한 정보(human readablc information)와; 상기 요부들중 한 요부 위에 각기 하나씩 놓이며, 개방 상태와 폐쇄 상태를 갖는 Z개의 표시 위치(Z indicator positions)로서, 선택된 표시 위치의 개방 상태는 상기 라벨을 관통하는 구멍(a hole)에 의해 표시되어 대응하는 요부를 노출시키도록 된 Z개의 표시 위치를 구비하는 라벨을 포함하는 데이타 카트리지(a data cartridge).
  2. 제1항에 있어서, 상기 인간이 판독가능한 정보는 상기 라벨의 외면상에 인쇄된 정보(printed information)를 포함하는 데이타 카트리지.
  3. 제1항에 있어서, 상기 Z개의 표시 위치의 개방상태 및 폐쇄상태는 2Z비트의 인코딩된 기계 판독가능한 정보(encoded machinc readable information)를 포함하는 데이타 카트리지.
  4. 제1항에 있어서, 상기 Z개의 표시 위치의 개방상태 및 폐쇄상태는 Z개 항목(Z items)의 기계 판독가능한 정보를 포함하는 데이타 카트리지.
  5. 제1항에 있어서, 상기 하우진내에 기록 매체(recording media)를 더 포함하는 데이타 카트리지.
  6. 외면에 슬롯(a slot)을 갖는 하우징(a housing)과; 상기 슬롯내에 끼어맞춤되는 착탈가능한 삽입체(a removable insert)로서, 상기 삽입체는 : 인간이 판독가능한 정보(human readable information)를 갖는 돌출 표면부(a raised surface portion)와; 개방 상태와 폐쇄 상태를 각기 가지며, 선택된 표시 위치의 폐쇄 상태는 돌출 패드(a raised pad)에 의해 표시되고, Z은 적어도 1인 Z개의 표시 위치(a number Z indicator positions)를 구비하는 착탈가능한 삽입체를 포함하는 데이타 카트리지.
  7. 제6항에 있어서, 상기 인간이 판독가능한 정보는 상기 돌출 표면부의 외면상에 인쇄된 정보(printed information)를 포함하는 데이타 카트리지.
  8. 제6항에 있어서, 상기 Z개의 표시 위치의 개방상태 및 폐쇄상태는 2Z비트의 인코딩된 기계 판독가능한 정보(encoded machine readable information)를 포함하는 데이타 카트리지.
  9. 제6항에 있어서, 상기 Z개의 표시 위치의 개방상태 및 폐쇄상태는 Z개 항목(Z items)의 기계 판독가능한 정보를 포함하는 데이타 카트리지.
  10. 제6항에 있어서, 상기 하우징내에 기록 매체(recording media)를 포함하는 데이타 카트리지.
  11. 소정의 제품에 부착되는 정보 라벨(an information)에 있어서, 상기 라벨의 표면상에 제공된 인간이 판독가능한 정보(human readable information)와; 개방 상태와 폐쇄 상태를 각기 가지며, 선택된 표시 위치의 개방 상태는 상기 라벨을 관통하는 구멍(a hole)에 의해 표시되고, Z은 적어도 1인 Z개의 표시 위치(a number Z indicator positions)를 포함하는 정보 라벨.
  12. 제11항에 있어서, 상기 인간이 판독가능한 정보는 돌출 표면부의 외면상에 인쇄된 정보(printed information)를 포함하는 정보 라벨.
  13. 제11항에 있어서, 상기 Z개의 표시 위치의 개방상태 및 폐쇄상태는 2Z비트의 인코딩된 기계 판독가능한 정보(encoded machine readable information)를 포함하는 정보 라벨.
  14. 제11항에 있어서, 상기 Z개의 표시 위치의 개방상태 및 폐쇄상태는 Z개 항목(Z items)의 기계 판독가능한 정보를 포함하는 정보 라벨.
