Abstract

제1기판(활성판)상에 대칭적인 2극 스위칭 소자(9)를 가진 표시장치(1)에 있어서, 제1기판상에 스위칭 유니트(13)를 배열함으로써 제2기판(비활성판)상의 로우전극(11)양단간의 지나치게 높은 전압의 정전 방전에 기인하는 손상이 방지된다. 스위칭 유니트는 예컨데 비등방성 도체를 걸쳐서 제2판상의 로우전극(11)에 접속된다. 컬럼전극(8)과 로우 및 컬럼전극간의 정전방전도 여분의 스위칭 유니트(16,26)를 활성판에 배열함으로써 방지된다.

Claims (10)

  1. 2개의 지지판간의 전기광학 매체와, 지지판의 대향표면상에 배열된 화상전극으로 각 화소가 형성되어 있는 로우 및 컬럼 배열의 화소 집합체와, 선택 신호 및 데이타 신호를 제공하기 위한 로우 및 컬럼전극의 집합체를 포함하고, 하나의 지지판상의 화상전극이 데이타 신호용 컬럼전극과 화상전극간의 제1비선형 비대칭의 2극 스위칭 유니트에 전기 전도적으로 접속되어 있는 표시장치에 있어서, 상기 표시장치는 로우전극의 부분에 전기적 전도 방법으로 접속되어 있는 점간의 지지판상에 적어도 제1형의 대칭적인 여분의 2극 스위칭 유니트를 포함하는 것을 특징으로 하는 표시장치.
  2. 제1항에 있어서, 상기 표시장치는 로우전극에 전기 전도적으로 접속되어 있는 점과 컬럼전극 사이에서 지지판상에서 적어도 제2형의 대칭적인 여분의 2극 스위칭 유니트를 포함하는 것을 특징으로 하는 표시장치.
  3. 제1항 또는 제2항에 있어서, 상기 표시장치는 제1지지판상의 2개의 컬럼전극간에 제3형의 대칭적인 여분의 2축 스위칭 유니트를 포함하는 것을 특징으로 하는 표시장치.
  4. 제1항에 있어서, 제1형의 대칭적인 여분의 2극 스위칭 유니트는 제1형의 적어도 2개의 스위칭 유니트용 공통노드와 2개의 로우 전극간에 배열되어 있는 2개의 서브-유니트(sub-units)로 분할되는 것을 특징으로 하는 표시장치.
  5. 제1항 또는 제4항에 있어서, 제3형의 대칭적인 여분의 2극 스위칭 유니트는 제3형의 적어도 2개의 스위칭 유니트용 공통 노드와 2개의 컬럼전극간에 배열되어 있는 2개의 서브-유니트로 분할되는 것을 특징으로 하는 표시장치.
  6. 제5항에 있어서, 상기 표시장치는 제1 및 제3형의 스위칭 유니트와 관련된 공통 노드간에 제4형의 선형 여분의 2극 스위칭 유니트를 포함하는 것을 특징으로 하는 표시장치.
  7. 제5항에 있어서, 제1 및 제3형의 여분의 스위칭 유니트와 관련된 공통 노드가 전기 전도적으로 접속되는 것을 특징으로 하는 표시장치.
  8. 제1항 내지 제7항중 어느 한 항에 있어서, 상기 스위칭 유니트는 MIMs을 포함하는 것을 특징으로 하는 표시장치.
  9. 제1항에 있어서, 상기 장치는 전기 콘덕턴스용 비등방성 전도 에지를 갖는 것을 특징으로 하는 표시장치.
  10. 제9항에 있어서, 상기 비등방성 전기 전도 에지는 밀봉에지(sealing edge)로도 기능하는 것을 특징으로 하는 표시장치.
