제2도는 수평 안정 형태의 하나의 셀과 수직 안정 형태의 다른 하나의 셀을 구비한 제1도의 전국 어레이를 가진 액정 표시장치의 단면도.
제3도 내지 6도는 본 발명의 원리에 따라 표시된 데이타의 전역적 소거가 행해지고 있는 제2도에 도시한 표시장치의 단면도.

Claims (9)

  1. 제1기판(110) 및 제2판(111)과, 이들 양기판 사이에 배치된 방향성 지지기를 가진 네마틱 중간위상의 액정재료(130)와, 예정의 패턴으로 방향성 지시기들이 정렬되게끔 배치된 기판내면(120,121,122―1,122―2)과, 제1의 공급된 전기 신호에 응동하여 기판들간에 전계를 발생해서 액정재료의 적어도 하나의 선택된 영역에서의 방향성 지시기가 제1의 지정된 상태로 정렬되게 하기 위한 서입수단(102―2), (102―1)를 구비한 표시장치에 있어서, 제2의 공급된 전기 신호에 응동하여 액정재료의 적어도 하나의 선택된 영역을 정화점 온도 또는 근처의 예정 온도로 가열해서 네마틱 중간위상으로 부터 등방성 위상으로의 위상전위가 액정재료내에서 행해지게 하기 위한 소거수단(102―1)를 또한 구비함을 특징으로 하는 표시장치.
  2. 제1항에 있어서, 제1기판의 내면 및 제2기판의 등방성 위상의 액정 재료를 네마틱 중간위상의 제2의 지정된 상태로만 냉각되게 제한하게끔 역경사 정돈 기하 형상이 형성되도록 네마틱 혼합물의 위상 수학적으로 조직된 제각기의 층 (120, 121, 122―1, 122―2)등에 배치됨을 특징으로 하는 표시장치.
  3. 제3항에 있어서, 기판의 위상 수학적으로 조직된 각 금속 층상의 표면강사각 θ0가 22.5˚내지 67.5˚의 범위에 있음을 특징으로 하는 표시장치.
  4. 제3항에 있어서, 서입수단은 제1 및 제2의 복수의 균일한 긴 스트립 도체를 구비하되, 이들 스트립 도체는 제각기 제1 및 제2 기판상에 배치되며, 제1의 복수의 도체들은 제2의 복수의 도체들에 대해 수직배치됨을 특징으로 하는 표시장치.
  5. 제4항에 있어서, 소거 수단은 제2의 복수의 균일한 긴 스트립 도체들을 구비함을 특징으로 하는 표시장치.
  6. 제5항에 있어서, 액정 재료는 특정 주파수 이상으로 인가된 전계에 대해 액정재료에서 부의 유전적 비등방성이 야기되게끔 적용된 두 개 주파수의 완화 특성을 가지며, 소거수단은 제3의 공급된 전기 신호에 응답하여 기판들간에 특정주파수의 전계를 발생해서 액정재료의 적어도 하나의 선택된 영역에서의 방향 지시기가 제2의 지정된 상태로 정렬되게 하기 위한 완화 바이어싱 수단을 포함하는 것을 특징으로 하는 표시장치.
  7. 제6항에 있어서, 완화 바이어싱 수단이 제1 및 2의 복수의 도체를 구비함을 특징으로 하는 표시장치.
  8. 제5 또는 7항에 있어서, 상기 액정재료가 다색염료를 포함하는 것을 특징으로 하는 표시장치.
  9. 제8항에 있어서, 액정재료가 콜렉스터릭 중간 위상의 액정 재료를 포함함을 특징으로 하는 표시장치.
