Abstract
본 발명은 자성을 지닌 비정질 금속을 바인더로 포함하는 자성 복합재료 및 그 제조방법을 제공한다.
Description
본 발명은 자성을 지닌 복합 소재 및 그 제조방법에 관한 것으로서, 보다 상세하게는 자성을 지닌 비정질 금속을 바인더로 포함하는 자성 복합재료 및 그 제조방법에 대한 것이다.
일반적으로, 바인더(binder)라 함은 polymer(epoxy. silicone, or PVDF) 또는 산화물 유리(solder glasses)를 주로 사용하고 있다. 이러한 바인더는 무기입자들을 막이나 벌크(bulk) 형태로 만들어 사용할 수 있다.
그러나 이러한 바인더로 만든 벌크 형태의 재료는 자성이나 전도성을 나타내기 어렵고, 전기적 및 열적으로 부도체의 특성을 나타낸다.
본 발명은 이와 같은 종래의 문제점을 해결하기 위한 것으로서, 본 발명에서 제시한 자성을 지닌 비정질 금속은 산화물 유리와 비슷한 열적, 물리적 거동을 보이면서 자성과 전도성 특성을 나타내므로 이를 바인더로 적용한 복합소재는 부도성 바인더를 사용한 복합소재에 비하여 우수한 전도성과 강자성 특성을 구현할 수 있다. 따라서 본 발명에서는 자성을 갖는 자성체 무기입자를 연자성 또는 강자성 성질을 갖는 비정질 금속과 복합화하여 자성 특성이 매우 우수한 자성 복합소재를 구현할 수 있다.
본 발명의 일 관점에 따르면, 자성을 지닌 비정질 금속을 바인더로 포함하는 자성 복합재료 및 그 제조방법을 제공한다
상기한 바와 같이 이루어진 본 발명의 일 실시예에 따르면, 우수한 전도성과 강자성 특성 지닌 복합 재료를 구현 가능한 효과가 있다.
또한, 자성체 코어 (core)를 제조하는 자동차 모터소재, 자성입자를 복합화하는 안테나 소재, 고체상태에서 냉각이 필요한 자기 냉각소재, 그 외의 자기 전기소자에 적용이 가능하다. 물론 이러한 효과에 의해 본 발명의 범위가 한정되는 것은 아니다.
도 1은 본 발명의 실시예에 따른 자성 입자들과 자성을 가진 metallic glass로 이루어진 자성 복합재료를 도시하는 개략적인 단면도이다.
도 2는 자성 입자와 magnetic metallic glass를 포함하는 자성 복합재료의 단면 SEM image를 나타낸 것이다.
도 3은 자성 복합재료의 온도에 따른 magnetic entropy 변화를 나타낸 것이다.
도 4는 자성을 지니지 않은 non-metallic glass를 binder로 사용하여 합성한 자성 복합재료의 온도에 따른 magnetic entropy 변화를 나타낸 것이다.

이하, 첨부된 도면을 참조하여 본 발명의 여러 실시예들을 상세히 설명하기로 한다. 본 발명의 실시예들은 당해 기술 분야에서 통상의 지식을 가진 자에게 본 발명을 더욱 완전하게 설명하기 위하여 제공되는 것이며, 하기 실시예는 여러 가지 다른 형태로 변형될 수 있으며, 본 발명의 범위가 하기 실시예에 한정되는 것은 아니다. 오히려 이들 실시예들은 본 개시를 더욱 충실하고 완전하게 하고, 당업자에게 본 발명의 사상을 완전하게 전달하기 위하여 제공되는 것이다. 또한, 도면에서 각 층의 두께나 크기는 설명의 편의 및 명확성을 위하여 과장된 것이다.
자성을 지닌 비정질 금속 중에는 Metallic glass를 포함할 수 있다. Metallic glass는 비정질 금속으로도 부를 수 있으며 원자의 배열이 불규칙한 금속합금이다.
일반적인 금속재료는 금속원자가 넓은 범위에 주기적으로 규칙 배열한 결정 구조를 가지고 있다. 이와 달리, 비정질 금속은 주기성이 결여된 무질서한 원자 배열상태를 갖고 있고 이는 액체나 기체 상태의 원자 배열과 유사하다. 이러한 상태를 비정질(Amorphous)이라고 하며, 용융된 금속을 고속으로 냉각하면 무질서한 상태로 존재하던 원자들이 규칙적 배열을 이루지 못하고 응고될 수 있다.
Metallic glass는 고온의 용융상태에서 급냉하여 얻어지므로 상온에서 과냉각된 액체 구조를 갖는다. 또한, 급냉에 의하여 생성된 응력이 metallic glass에 축적되어 있으므로 풀림(annealing) 처리를 할 경우, 이 응력이 Tg(glass transition temperature)에서 완화되면서 저온에서 액상이 생성된다. 이러한 thermo-physical property를 이용하여 저온에서 binder로 적용할 수 있다.
일상생활에 애용하고 있는 냉장고의 작동은 냉매(refrigerant)가 증발기 속에서 기화될 때 냉동실 내의 열을 기화열로 흡수하여 냉각시키며, 외부에서는 반대로 액화 하여 흡수한 열을 발산하는 원리를 이용한다. 이러한 작동이 반복되면서 냉동실 안의 온도는 일정한 저온 상태를 유지한다. 즉, 냉매가스를 흡입하여 압축기로 압축하면 냉매의 온도는 올라가고 압축된 뜨거운 기체는 응축기로 간다. 여기서 냉매의 열은 밖으로 방출되어 온도가 내려가고 냉매는 높은 압력으로 기체에서 액체로 응결된다. 액체냉매는 증발기로 이동하면서 압력이 낮아지며 기체로 다시 변환되면서 열을 빼앗아 냉장고의 온도는 급격히 내려간다. 기체상태의 냉매는 압축기로 되돌아간다. 이렇게 냉매는 컴프레서 응축기 증발기 사이를 순환하며 같은 작업을 되풀이한다. 이러한 반복 순환과정을 거쳐 냉장고 안의 열은 지속적으로 밖으로 방출되게 된다. 하지만, 현재 냉장고에서 주로 사용하는 냉매는 오존층을 파괴하고 지구 온난화를 촉진하는 문제가 있으므로 선진국에서는 그 사용을 엄격하게 억제하고 있고, 대신 환경친화적인 냉매 개발을 적극적으로 추진하는 추세이다. 따라서 본 발명은 냉매를 사용하지 않는 자성 냉각시스템을 생각하였다.
본 발명은 고효율 자성냉각 시스템을 제조하기 위해 자성재료와 자성 특성을 지닌 metalic glass, glass fit, 혹은 그들의 조합을 binder로 사용하여 자성복합체를 구현하는 방법에 관한 것이다.
여기서 자성재료라 함은 자기열량(magnetocaloric) 재료, 강자성 재료, 연자성 재료 도는 그들의 조합으로 구성된 물질들을 의미한다. 또한, 자성재료는 Fe, Mn, Co, Ni, Nb, Y, La, Ce, Pr, Nd, Pm, Sm, Eu, Gd, Tb, Dy, Ho, Er, Tm, Yb, B, Si, Ge, Ga, As, Sb, Te, P, Bi 성분으로 구성되거나 그들의 합금, 산화물, 질화물 그리고 그들의 조합으로 만든 재료를 모두 포함한다.
도 1 및 도 2를 참조 하면, 자성재료는 입자 형태이고, 그 직경은 1nm ~ 100μm 크기를 가질 수 있다.
또한, 본 발명을 구성하는 자성을 지닌 metallic glass는 아래의 조성을 갖는 합금 system을 모두 포함할 수 있다.

metallic glass는 높은 기계적 강도 및 우수한 화학적 안정성, 그리고 뛰어난 자기특성 등 일반적인 금속재료에서는 발견되지 않는 다양한 특성들을 가질 수 있다. 이러한 특성들은 입계(grain boundary)나 면결함 등이 존재하지 않는데서 발생할 수 있다.
일반 결정질 금속에는 일반적으로 많은 결함(atomic disorder)이 있지만, 이러한 결함이 금속의 변형을 용이하게 하는 역할을 한다. 다만 동시에 강도를 약하게 하기도 한다.
Metallic glass는 결정질 금속 대비 2~10배의 강도 및 5~10배의 탄성 변형한계, 2~3배의 표면 경도 및 스테인리스강보다 수만 배의 높은 내식성을 가질 수 있다.
Metallic glass는 이외에도 유리나 고분자재료와 같이 유리전이온도(glass transition temperature)를 갖고 있다. 일반적으로 액체를 냉각하면 녹는점에서 결정화가 시작된다. 이때 냉각속도, 액체의 점도, 고상과 액상 계면의 에너지 등 다양한 조건에 의해 과냉 액체(supercooled liquid) 상태를 유지할수 있다. 과냉도가 커짐에 따라 핵 생성의 구동력은 증가하지만 동시에 원자의 이동도도 감소하게된다. 결국 냉각속도를 충분히 빠르게 하여 저온
까지 냉각시키면 액체구조가 그대로 유지된 상태에서 원자의 이동이 불가능해지며 유리전이온도에서 균일하게 응고될 수 있다.
자성 복합재료의 온도에 따른 magnetic entropy 변화 예를 도 3에 나타내었다. 도 3은 본 발명의 자성재료와 자성 특성을 지닌 metallic glass를 소결하여 합성한 자성 복합재료의 magnetic entropy 특성이 자성재료만을 소결했을 때와 같이 유지됨을 보인다. 하지만, 자성을 지니지 않은 non-metallic glass를 binder로 사용할 경우 자성 복합재료는 도 4와 같이 각 자성재료의 magnetic entropy 특성은 보유하지만, 자성 복합재료의 magnetic entropy는 작아지고 넓은 온도 범위에 걸쳐 변하고 있음을 보인다.
이하, 첨부된 도면을 참조하여 본 발명의 바람직한 실시예를 상세히 설명하기로 한다.

본 발명은 도면에 도시된 실시예를 참고로 설명되었으나 이는 예시적인 것에 불과하며, 당해 기술분야에서 통상의 지식을 가진 자라면 이로부터 다양한 변형 및 균등한 다른 실시예가 가능하다는 점을 이해할 것이다. 따라서 본 발명의 진정한 기술적 보호 범위는 첨부된 특허청구범위의 기술적 사상에 의하여 정해져야 할 것이다.
