본 발명은 저-밀도 발포체 내에 분산되는 탈산소제 재료(oxygen scavenger material)에 관한 것이다. 특히, 본 발명은 식품을 포장하는 발포체 트레이의 형태의 탈산소제 재료에 관한 것이다.
육류 트레이 및 일회용 컵과 같은 강성 식품 용기가 식품 포장 및 서비스에서 널리 사용된다. 육류 또는 식품 포장에서 사용되는 종래의 트레이 및 용기는 대개 포장 및 운반을 위해 중량을 감소시키지만 강성을 제공하도록 발포처리된다. 재료는 전형적으로 폴리스티렌 그리고 다른 폴리올레핀이다.
용기의 바람직한 특징은 식품의 신선도를 유지하는 것이다. 육류 패키지의 신선도를 개선시키는 통상의 방법은 흡수 패드를 사용함으로써 과도한 액체를 제거하는 것이다. 더 효과적인 방법은 패키지 내부측의 산소 함량을 감소시키는 것이다. 그 효과는 탈산소제와 함께 패키징되는 포장육(case ready meat)에 의해 입증되었다.
포장육은 중앙 포장 공장에서 패키징된 후, 식품점 또는 레스토랑에 복수개의 육류 패키지를 수용하는 백으로 운반된다. 패키징된 육류는 통상적으로 스티로폼 트레이 내에 있고, 가스 순환이 가능하도록 작은 구멍을 갖게 천공되는 중합체 래핑(polymer wrapping)으로 덮인다. 백은 통상적으로 산소 저항성 중합체 시트(oxygen resistant polymer sheet)로 형성되고, 탈산소제 재료를 함유하는 시트 또는 새세이(sachet)의 형태로 탈산소제를 함유한다. 발포체 트레이 및 육류는 산소를 방출하고, 모든 산소를 비용 효과적으로 그리고 신속하게 흡수할 정도로 충분한 탈산소제를 포함하기 어렵다는 것이 발견되었다.
음식 포장 내의 산소를 흡수하는 공지된 방법은 중합체 매트릭스 내에 탈산소제를 매립 또는 압출함으로써 수행된다. 셀형 구조에 탈산소제를 압출하는 것이 공지되어 있지만, 이러한 분야의 종래 기술은 주로 고체 중합체 필름 또는 시트에 집중하고 있다.

미국 특허 제6,071,580호[다우 케미컬(Dow Chemical), 2000]는 유체 흡수 분야를 위한 개방 셀 발포체 및 트레이를 제조하는 방법을 기재하고 있다.
육류 그리고 다른 제품을 위한 패키지를 준비하는 개선된 방법에 대한 필요성이 남아 있다. 판매 지점으로부터 멀리 떨어진 위치에서 패키징되는 육류의 패키지 내의 더 양호한 산소 제어에 대한 필요성이 남아 있다.

본 발명은 산소의 존재로 인한 품질 저하에 민감한 제품의 마스터 인클로저(master enclosure)를 운송하는 종래의 제품 포장 재료 및 방법보다 많은 장점을 갖는다. 본 발명은 패키지 내의 비고정식(loose) 탈산소제 요소에 대한 필요성을 감소시킨다. 본 발명의 양호한 제품은 포장될 제품 내에 있는 물에 의한 탈산소제의 활성화를 가능케 한다. 발포체 제품 트레이 내에서 물로 활성화되는 산소 흡수 재료는 마스터 인클로저 내의 별개의 탈산소제에 대한 필요성 그리고 조기 산소 흡수에 대한 과도한 보호 없이 비어 있는 발포체 용기의 운송을 허용할 필요성을 감소시킨다.
발포체 용기 내에 활성 탈산소제를 합체하는 장점은 육류/식품 패키지의 신선도를 연장시키는 것, 포장육에 대한 추가 신선도를 제공하는 것, 육류/식품으로부터 누출되는 액체로 탈산소제를 활성화시키는 것 그리고 새세이를 탈산소(scavenging)할 필요성이 없거나 적다는 것을 포함한다.
본 발명의 발포 제품의 속성은 다음의 것 즉 (a) 양호한 외관을 제공하는 균일한 분산, (b) 셀 크기, 개방 셀 레벨 및 밀도 제어를 통한 조정 가능한 산소 흡수 속도, (c) 휘발성 유기 화합물(VOC)을 감소시키기 위한 개선된 팽창 비율 또는 감소된 발포제, (d) 억제된 기계적 성질 그리고 (e) 인쇄 가능 및 장식 가능한 것을 추가로 포함한다.
이들 및 다른 장점은 다음의 상세한 설명 및 도면으로부터 명확해질 것이다.
도 1은 탈산소 재료(10)의 단면도이다. 탈산소제 재료에는 표피 층(12, 14) 및 발포체 코어 층(16)이 제공된다. 표피 층(12, 14) 및 발포체 코어 층(16)은 탈산소제(22)를 함유한다. 발포체 코어 층(16)은 탈산소제 재료(22) 뿐만 아니라 공극(18)을 포함한다. 탈산소제 재료(22) 중 일부는 공극(18)과 접경되고 공극(18)의 핵생성(nucleation)을 보조한다는 것이 주목되어야 한다. 탈산소제 재료는 공극 형성을 보조할 때에 더 적은 팽창제(blowing agent)의 사용을 가능케 한다.
도 2는 도 1에 도시된 것과 같은, 탈산소 재료(10)를 사용하여 형성되는 제품 패키지(30)를 도시하고 있다. 탈산소제 재료(10)는 도시되지 않은 열성형과 같은 주지된 수단에 의해 트레이(32)로 형성된다. 트레이(32)는 약간의 습기를 함유하는 쇠고기(36)와 같은 제품 그리고 바람직하게는 흡수 패드(38)를 포함한다. 트레이(32)는 중합체 시트로 래핑되고, 저부(42)에서 밀봉된다. 중합체 래핑 재료는 산소 차단 재료(oxygen barrier material)일 수 있거나, 일부 경우에 패키지로부터의 가스의 탈출을 가능케 하도록 미소 천공된다. 래핑은 마스터 제품 인클로저 운송을 위해 미소공성이다. 국부 및 매장-내의 사용을 위해서, 래핑은 다공성이 아닐 것이다. 흡수 패드(38)는 육즙을 흡수하도록 육류의 트레이 포장에서 사용되는 종래의 흡수 패드이다.
도 3에는 마스터 제품 인클로저(50)가 도시되어 있다. 마스터 제품 인클로저(50)는 산소 차단 중합체 시트로 형성되는 백(56) 내에 적층되는 4개의 제품 패키지(30)를 갖는 것으로 도시되어 있다. 가스가 백(56)으로부터 인출되고, 백(56)은 폐쇄부(58)에 의해 밀봉된다. 백(56)에는 밀봉 전에 탈산소제 요소(52, 54)가 제공된다. 제품 패키지(30)에는 트레이(32) 내의 탈산소제 재료 그리고 탈산소제 요소(52, 54)의 양쪽 모두에 의한 탈산소을 가능케 하도록 미소공성 커버링(34)이 제공된다. 백(56) 내의 산소의 공급원은 육류로부터의 산소의 탈기 그리고 발포체 트레이(32)로부터의 산소의 탈기 후에 제거되지 않은 잔류 공기이다. 탈산소 요소(52, 54)의 사용은 트레이(32)가 충분한 탈산소 능력을 가지면 필요하지 않을 수 있다.
본 발명에는, 탈산소제를 함유하는 셀형 발포체 시트를 제조하는 방법이 개시되어 있다. 이 방법은 발포 수지 내에서의 철 계열 탈산소제의 직접 압출에 의한 것으로서, 발포체 매트릭스 내에서의 활성 성분의 균일한 분산을 가능하게 한다. 발포체 시트는 종래의 열성형 공정을 사용함으로써 용기로 열성형될 수 있다. 양호한 발포제는 습기를 함유하지 않거나 발생시키지 않는 경질 탄화수소 또는 불활성 가스와 같은 물리적 발포제(physical foaming agent)의 것들일 수 있다.
양호한 실시예에서, 순수한 중합체로부터의 50% 초과의 밀도 감소 그리고 497 ㎏/㎥(31 lb/ft3) 미만의 밀도를 갖고 구조 내에 양호하게 분배되는 철 계열 탈산소제(iron based oxygen scavenger)를 함유하는 열가소성 중합체 발포체가 제공된다. 양호한 중합체는 비용이 낮으므로 폴리스티렌이다. 양호한 철 계열 탈산소제는 활성화 및 산화 반응 촉진체로 사전 코팅되거나 그와 합성되는 1-25 ㎛의 범위 내의 평균 입자 크기를 갖는 미세 분말 포맷으로 되어 있다. 철 계열 탈산소제는 마스터배치(masterbatch)로서 합성되고, 용융 전의 고체 상태의 발포 수지가 공급되거나 그와 사전 혼합된다. 발포제가 그 다음에 중합체 용융물 내로 주입된다. 탈산소제는 발포체 셀을 위한 기핵제(nucleator)로서 작용할 수 있다. 발포 수지 및 철 계열 탈산소제는 미세 셀을 형성하도록 기핵제로서 다른 첨가제를 선택적으로 함유할 수 있다.
본 발명의 또 다른 실시예는 구조 내에 양호하게 분산되는 철 계열 탈산소제를 함유하는 생분해성 중합체 발포체를 제공한다. 발포체는 30% 이상의 밀도 감소 그리고 689 ㎏/㎥(43 lb/ft3) 이하의 밀도를 갖는다. 양호한 생분해성 중합체는 폴리락트산이다.
본 발명은 또 다른 실시예에서 감소된 양의 발포제로 그리고 철 계열 탈산소제의 합체로 낮은 발포체 밀도에 도달될 수 있고 그에 의해 휘발성 유기 화합물의 발생을 감소시키는 열가소성 중합체 발포체를 제공한다. 열가소성 발포체는 발포체 시트가 다이를 떠남에 따라 표피 형성에 의해 형성되는 반짝이는 반사 외관을 특징으로 한다.
임의의 적절한 탈산소제가 본 발명에서 이용될 수 있다. 전형적인 탈산소제는 황 이산화물, 살리실산의 킬레이트, 살리실산 염이다. 적절한 탈산소제 재료는 아연, 구리, 알루미늄 및 주석과 같은 금속의 염 또는 킬레이트이다. 철 탈산소제가 효과적이고 비용이 낮아서 바람직하다.
가장 양호한 탈산소제는 활성화 및 산성화 재료로 코팅된 환원 철 분말이다. 이것은 신속한 탈산소 그리고 양호한 공극 형성을 위해 바람직하게는 1-25 ㎛의 평균 입자 크기, 더 바람직하게는 1-10 ㎛의 평균 입자 크기 그리고 가장 바람직하게는 2-5 ㎛의 평균 입자 크기를 갖는다. 철 입자 상으로 코팅되는 활성화 및 산성화 성분의 조합 및 상대 분률은 참조로 여기에 합체되어 있는 미국 특허 제6,899,822호, 미국 특허 출원 제2005/0205841호 및 제2007/0020456호의 개시 내용에 따라 선택된다. 코팅 기술은 바람직하게는 위의 참조 문헌에 기재된 것과 같은 건식 코팅이다. 본 발명은 1-25 ㎛의 평균 입자 크기를 갖는 철-계열 분말에 특히 집중되고, 여기에서 철 입자가 균질한 분말을 형성하도록 활성화 및 산화 반응 촉진제 입자로 사전-코팅된다. 미세하게 분산된 탈산소 입자로 생성되는 발포 시트 또는 제품은 유리하게는 산소와의 높은 반응성을 갖는다. 탈산소 입자는 발포체 구조 전체에 걸쳐 양호하게 분산된다.
발포체 탈산소 재료를 위한 양호한 중합체는, 낮은 비용 그리고 형성될 수 있는 발포체 제품의 강도 때문에 폴리스티렌 및 스티렌-부타디엔 공중합체이다. 다른 적절한 중합체는 스티렌-에틸렌 공중합체, 폴리프로필렌, 폴리에틸렌, 폴리우레탄 및 그 공중합체 또는 유도체를 포함한다. 생분해성 중합체 그리고 위의 중합체의 조합이 또한 이용될 수 있다.
본 발명에서 개시된 선택 사항의 생분해성 수지를 위한 양호한 중합체는 폴리락트산(PLA) 및 그 공중합체 또는 유도체이다. PLA 내에서 분지(branching) 또는 가교(cross-linking)에 의해 유도되는 더 높은 용융체 강도가 수지의 성형성을 돕고 더 낮은 밀도의 발포체를 제공하기 때문에 양호한 유도체는 분지된 PLA 또는 약하게 가교된 PLA이다. 다른 적절한 생분해성 중합체는 폴리히드록시알카노에이트(PHA) 지방족 공중합-폴리에스테르, 그리고 폴리 히드록시 부티레이트(PHB), 폴리카프로락톤, 열가소성 전분(TPS), 셀룰로오스 그리고 다른 다당류의 그 공통 형태의 중합체를 포함한다. 모두는 다양한 물리적 성질을 나타내도록 넓은 범위까지 변화되는 각자의 결정성(crystallinity)을 가질 수 있다.
0.1-5%의 낮은 농도의 활석, CaCO3, 아연 스테아르산염 및 상업용 방부제와 같은 무기 또는 유기 첨가제가 발포체 셀을 위한 기핵제로서 역할하도록 수지에 첨가될 수 있다. 발포제는 이소부탄, 이소펜탄, HCFC-142B, 141B와 같은 경질 탄화수소를 포함한다. 이것은 CO2, N2, Ar 또는 이들 성분의 혼합물을 또한 포함한다.
발포 조건은 낮은 밀도의 시트 발포체를 제조하도록 공지된 것을 따라야 한다. 발포체는 전형적으로 발포제가 수지의 용융 상태로 주입되는 탠덤 압출기를 사용함으로써 압출된다. 압출기 그리고 다이 온도 및 압력은 저밀도의 발포체에 유리한 조건에 도달되도록 적절하게 유지되어야 한다. 폴리스티렌에 대한 발포체 밀도는 바람직하게는 504.6 ㎏/㎥(31.5 lb/ft3) 미만, 더 바람직하게는 160 ㎏/㎥(10 lb/ft3) 미만, 그리고 가장 바람직하게는 32-80 ㎏/㎥(2-5 lb/ft3)이다. 폴리락트산에 대한 발포체 밀도는 바람직하게는 689 ㎏/㎥(43 lb/ft3) 미만, 더 바람직하게는 320 ㎏/㎥(20 lb/ft3) 미만 그리고 가장 바람직하게는 32-160 ㎏/㎥(2-10 lb/ft3)이다. 더 낮은 밀도가 비용이 더 낮기 때문에 바람직하다.
탈산소 재료는 압출 다이에 의해 형성되는 표면상의 표피 그리고 발포 코어를 갖는 발포체 시트로 압출되는데, 이때 다이는 발포체 표면을 붕괴시켜 표피를 형성한다. 시트는 열가소성이고, 열성형에 의해 용기로 형성될 수 있다. 본 발명에서 사용되는 양호한 용기는 육류 포장에서 이용되는 것과 같은 트레이이다. 그러나, 컵, 보울 및 플레이트와 같은 다른 형상이 형성될 수 있다. 컵 및 보울에는 열적으로 형성된 탈산소 발포체 재료의 뚜껑이 또한 제공될 수 있다.
발포체 재료의 표면 근처에 더 많은 개방 공극을 갖는 발포체 재료를 형성하는 것은 발포체 압출 공정을 제어함으로써 가능하다. 발포체 재료의 개방 공극 영역은 폐쇄 공극보다 신속하게 산소를 흡수할 것이다. 폐쇄 공극 영역은 더 양호한 강도를 제공하고, 발포체 재료를 강화시킨다. 폐쇄 공극 형성과 개방 공극 형성의 균형은 압출 중의 발포 온도 제어, 첨가제 및 수지 조성물에 의해 수행된다.
물로 활성화되는 탈산소제를 이용하는 데에는 특별한 이익이 있다. 물로 활성화되는 탈산소제를 사용하면, 사용 전의 형성된 발포체 트레이의 값비싼 무-산소 보관(oxygen-free storage)에 대해 필요성이 적지만, 그 산소 흡수 능력이 감소되지 않도록 사용 전에 산소 및 수증기 차단 백 내에 탈산소제를 보유하는 것이 바람직하다.
마스터 제품 인클로저는 산소 및 수증기 차단 중합체 백으로서 도 3에 도시되어 있다. 임의의 적절한 중합체 백은 산소 및 수증기의 통과에 대한 차단 성질을 가지면 이용될 수 있다. 백은 차단체로서 금속 층을 이용할 수 있거나, 차단 성질을 갖는 중합체로 형성될 수 있다. 양호한 차단 성질을 갖고 강력하고 비용이 낮기 때문에, 양호한 재료는 폴리비닐리덴 클로라이드 백인 것으로 밝혀졌다. 백에 대한 대체물로서, 열 밀봉 가능하고 금속 필름 및/또는 중합체 재료와 같은 차단 재료로 라이닝되는 강성 용기가 이용될 수 있다.
마스터 제품 인클로저는 폐쇄 전에 소기된다. 이로인해, 산소 흡수에 대한 필요성이 최소화된다. 그러나, 산소는 육류 및 채소와 같은 제품으로부터 방출된다. 또한, 발포체 트레이는 백 내로 방출되는 약간의 산소를 포함할 것이다. 소기 전에 백 내로 시트 또는 새세이의 형태의 산소 흡수 요소를 위치시키는 것이 공지되어 있지만, 발포체 트레이가 산소 흡수 성질을 가지면 추가 산소 흡수 요소에 대한 필요성이 적거나 없다. 마스터 제품 인클로저 내의 새세이로서 그 역할을 완수하여야 하는 경우보다 육류에 의해 방출되는 산소가 트레이에 의해 더 신속하게 흡수되므로 트레이의 산소 흡수 성질이 트레이 내에 보관된 육류로부터의 습기에 의해 활성화되면 특히 효과적이다. 발포체 트레이 내에 합체되는 탈산소제의 사용은 품질의 상당한 저하가 검출 가능하기 전에 쇠고기 및 돼지고기에 더 긴 보관 시간을 제공하는 것으로 밝혀졌다.
산소 흡수 재료에 의한 품질 저하로부터 보호되는 제품은 이것이 쇠고기 및 돼지고기의 양쪽 모두와 양호하게 사용되므로 육류로서 예시되었다. 그러나, 본 발명의 산소 흡수 재료는 또한 조리된 식품, 채소 제품, 생선 및 닭고기의 포장에서 이용될 수 있다. 다른 경우에, 담배, 의약, 과일 및 실험용 시료와 같은 재료가 본 발명의 패키지 및 마스터 제품 인클로저로 판매 및 운반될 수 있다.

예 1: 탈산소제를 함유하는 압출된 폴리스티렌 화합물.
탈산소제 패키지가 80% 철, 10% 소듐 바이설페이트 및 10% 소듐 클로라이드의 조성을 갖는 균질하게 코팅된 복합 분말을 형성하도록 소듐 바이설페이트 및 소듐 클로라이드로 4-5 ㎛ 평균 입자 크기의 철 입자를 코팅함으로써 준비되었다. 코팅된 복합 분말 탈산소제는 폴리스티렌 수지(다우 케미컬 스티론 666)로 압출하는 데 사용되었다. 이중 스크류 압출기 합성 장비가 수지와 탈산소제를 합성하는 데 사용되었다. 수지 펠릿은 탈산소제와 혼합되기 전에 0.2 중량% 미네랄 오일(소매 약국 등급)과 혼합되었다. 혼합물은 그 다음에 압출기 내에 급송되었다. 압출기는 모든 가열 영역에 대해 200℃로 설정되고, 다이 온도가 190℃로 설정되었다. 탈산소제/수지 혼합물은 20 중량% 탈산소제 및 80 중량% 중합체 그리고 40/60 중량 비율의 탈산소제 및 중합체를 가져오도록 압출되었다. 압출된 스트랜드는 펠릿화(pelletizing) 전에 공냉되었다.
예 2: 탈산소 폴리스티렌의 압출.
3.8 ㎝(1.5") 및 6.4 ㎝(2.5") 단축 탠덤(tandem) 압출기 시스템이 폴리스티렌 시트 발포체를 압출하는 데 사용되었다. 예 1로부터의 탈산소제 및 수지 화합물, 폴리스티렌(다우 스티론 685) 및 활석 마스터 배치가 배치 혼합되어(batch mixed) 모든 압출기 영역에 대해 180℃로 설정된 3.8 ㎝(1.5") 압출기 내에 급송되었다. 활석 마스터 배치는 40/60 비율의 활석 분말 및 폴리스티렌을 포함한다. 탈산소제, 폴리스티렌 및 활석 마스터 배치의 양은 표 1에 제공된다. 이소부탄이 6.4 ㎝(2.5") 압출기에 연결되는 3.8 ㎝(1.5") 압출기의 출구 근처에 주입되었다. 8.9 ㎝(3.5") 평탄 시트 다이가 6.4 ㎝(2.5") 압출기에 연결되고, 시트 발포체를 압출하도록 150℃로 설정되었다.
탈산소제 화합물을 함유하는 3-5 ㎜ 두께의 발포체 시트가 압출되어 플랭크(plank)로서 수집되었다. 발포체는 은이었고, 가시적 응집체 없이 반사적이었다. 정미 탈산소제 수지 화합물은 2 내지 8 중량%의 범위 내에 있었다. 발포체의 밀도는 물 침지 시험에 의해 측정된다. 표 1은 탈산소 폴리스티렌 발포체의 조성, 공정 조건 및 성질을 나열하고 있다. 표시된 것과 같이, 탈산소제 발포체의 밀도는 44.9 - 49.7 ㎏/㎥(2.8 - 3.1 lb/ft3)의 범위 내에 있고, 탈산소제를 갖지 않는 순수한 폴리스티렌 발포체의 밀도와 비교 가능하고, 상업용 발포체 트레이의 밀도와 유사하다. 이것은 용기 또는 트레이를 제조하는 데 유용한 저밀도 탈산소 발포체의 형성을 나타낸다.

동일한 저밀도 발포체를 생성하는 데 필요한 발포제의 양은 일반적으로 탈산소제 레벨의 증가에 따라 감소된다는 것이 관찰되었다. 이것은 발포체 밀도를 희생시키지 않으면서 철 계열 탈산소제의 사용으로의 발포제의 잠재적 감소를 나타내었다.
탈산소 성능은 파우치 시험(pouch test)을 사용함으로써 측정되었다. 새로운 발포체 플랭크는 절단되고 중량 측정되어 포일 파우치 내에 위치되었다. 92% 상대 습도를 전달하는 가습제가 또한 탈산소제에 의해 산소 흡수 능력을 활성화시키도록 파우치 내에 보관되었다. 파우치는 그 다음에 밀봉되었고, 후속적으로 파우치 내로 O2/N2=20/80의 혼합물로부터의 300 cc 가스가 주입되었다. 산소 농도는 모콘 팩 체크 모델 450 헤드 스페이스 어낼라이저(MOCON Pac Check Model 450 Head Space Analyzer)에 의해 측정되었다. 단위 발포체 중량 당 산소 흡수량은 2-8 중량% 탈산소제 수지 화합물 로딩에 대해 도 4에 도시되어 있다. 발포체 셀은 초기에 공기나 습기를 약간 갖거나 전혀 갖지 않는 이소부탄을 함유하므로, 산소 흡수 거동은 주로 단지 표면 탈산소제에 기인될 수 있다는 것이 주목되어야 한다. 셀형 구조 내부측의 탈산소제의 기능은 활성화되지 않을 수 있다. 그럼에도 불구하고, 탈산소제 발포체는 순수한 발포체보다 향상된 흡수 거동을 나타낸다. 더 많은 습기가 존재하면, 그 결과는 산소가 더 신속하게 탈산소되므로, 더 양호할 것이다.
예 3: 탈산소 PLA 발포체의 압출.
네이처워크 PLA 2002D(NatureWork PLA 2002D) 압출기가 탈산소제 발포체를 압출하는 데 사용된다. 수지는 2-4%의 로딩을 갖는 예1에서와 동일한 탈산소제 수지 화합물, 기핵제로서의 활석 그리고 발포제로서의 이소부탄과 혼합된다. 조성, 공정 조건 및 성질이 표 3에 나열되어 있다. 발포된 시트는 순수한 수지에 비해 대략 50% 이상의 밀도 감소를 갖는다. 선형 중합체로 인한 비교적 더 약한 성형성에도 불구하고, PLA 발포체는 용기 및 트레이를 위한 발포 시트를 제조하는 데 적용 가능한 성질을 소유한다. 이것은 철 계열 탈산소제로 생성되는 활성 셀형 PLA의 형성을 나타낸다.

탈산소제 PLA 발포체 샘플의 산소 흡수 거동은 설명된 것과 동일한 방법을 사용함으로써 측정되고, 도 5는 92% RH 하에서의 장기간 보관에 대한 순수한 발포체와 탈산소제 PLA 발포체의 비교를 나타내고 있다. 새롭게 제조된 발포체는 셀형 구조 내에 이소부탄을 함유하므로, 순수한 발포체는 또한 발포체 셀을 횡단하는 산소의 유입 그리고 이소부탄의 유출로 인한 산소 흡수를 나타낸다. 탈산소제 PLA 발포체는 순수한 발포체에 비해 향상된 산소 흡수를 나타낸다.
