Claims (11)
- 서로 대향 배치된 상부 기판과 하부 기판과의 사이에 액정층이 유지된 액정 셀을 갖는 액정 표시 장치에 있어서,복수의 요철부를 갖고, 소정의 회전 방향을 갖는 타원 편광중의 적어도 일부를 반사시키는 콜레스테릭(cholesteric) 액정층을 이용한 반사층이 상기 하부 기판의 내면측에 구비되고,상기 액정층에 대하여 상기 상부 기판측으로부터 타원 편광을 입사시키는 상부 기판측 타원 편광 입사 수단이 마련되어 있고, 또한 상기 액정층은 선택 전계 인가 상태, 비 선택 전계 인가 상태중의 어느 한쪽의 상태에 있어서 입사한 타원 편광의 극성을 반전시키고, 다른쪽의 상태에 있어서 극성을 바꾸지 않는 것을 특징으로 하는 액정 표시 장치.
- 제 1 항에 있어서,상기 반사층은 반사광을 특정한 각도 범위에 집중시키는 것을 특징으로 하는 액정 표시 장치.
- 제 1 항에 있어서,상기 콜레스테릭 액정층을 구성하는 상기 요철부는 곡면으로 이루어지는 것을 특징으로 하는 액정 표시 장치.
- 제 1 항 내지 3 항중 어느 한 항에 있어서,상기 콜레스테릭 액정층보다도 상기 하부 기판측에, 복수의 요철부를 갖는 하지층이 구비되어 있는 것을 특징으로 하는 액정 표시 장치.
- 제 4 항에 있어서,상기 하지층은 수지에 의해서 형성된 것을 특징으로 하는 액정 표시 장치.
- 제 1 항에 있어서,상기 반사층보다도 상부 기판측에, 서로 다른 색의 안료를 포함하는 복수의 색소층을 갖는 컬러 필터층이 마련되어 있는 것을 특징으로 하는 액정 표시 장치.
- 제 1 항에 있어서,상기 액정 셀에 대하여 상기 하부 기판측으로부터 광을 입사시키는 조명 장치가 구비되어 있고, 또한상기 액정층에 대하여 상기 하부 기판측으로부터 타원 편광을 입사시키는 하부 기판측 타원 편광 입사 수단이 마련되어 있는 것을 특징으로 하는 액정 표시 장치.
- 제 1 항에 있어서,상기 콜레스테릭 액정층은, 상기 액정 셀의 표시 영역내를 분할한 소정의 영역마다 액정 분자의 나선형 피치에 따른 파장이 다른 색광을 선택적으로 반사시키는 컬러 필터로서 기능하는 것을 특징으로 하는 액정 표시 장치.
- 제 8 항에 있어서,상기 반사층에 있어서의 상기 액정 셀의 표시 영역내를 분할한 소정의 영역의 주연부에 대응하는 위치에,상기 콜레스테릭 액정층을 구성하는 상기 요철부의 최정상부의 높이보다도 높게되도록 마련되어, 상기 콜레스테릭 액정층을 액정 분자의 나선형 피치마다 분리하는 칸막이 벽이 구비되어 있는 것을 특징으로 하는 액정 표시 장치.
- 제 1 항에 있어서,상기 반사층이, 액정 분자의 나선형 피치가 다른 복수의 콜레스테릭 액정층을 갖는 것을 특징으로 하는 액정 표시 장치.
- 제 1 항에 기재된 액정 표시 장치를 구비한 것을 특징으로 하는 전자 기기.
