Abstract
마이크로 렌즈 어레이(10)를 구비한 감광 디바이스(46)는 표면 실장 패키징(48)에 패키징될 수 있고, 마이크로 렌즈의 광 성능을 크게 저하시키지 않고 매스 리플로 처리를 수행할 수 있다. 마이크로 렌즈(12)는 시간 및 온도를 증가시키는 일련의 가열 스텝을 사용해서 형성될 수 있다. 또한, 마이크로 렌즈는 통상의 표면 실장 기술과 관련된 온도에서 자체의 투광성을 저하시키는 것을 방지하기 위해 표백될 수 있다.
Description
집적회로 이미지 센서는 또한, 수광성의 증가를 획득한다. 상보형 금속 산화막 반도체(CMOS) 이미징 디바이스는 종래의 로직 반도체 제조 공정을 사용해서 형성될 수 있다. 이들 디바이스는 이미징 기능에 더해서 향상된 전자 기능을 가지고, 디바이스를 제조하기 때문에, 고속으로, 상대적으로 저렴하게 제조될 수 있다.
다양한 감광 디바이스가 마이크로 렌즈를 이용해서, 각각의 필 팩터를 증가시키고 있다. 필 팩터는, 그 경로가 이미지 감지 어레이상에 실제 도달하는 입사광의 양의 측정값이다. 마이크로 렌즈는 소형 렌즈로서 동작해서, 각각의 광의 초점을 이미지 감지 어레이를 구성하고 있는 각각의 픽셀에 맞춘다.
본 발명은 감광 디바이스에 관한 것이고, 상세하게는 이러한 감광 디바이스의 필 팩터를 증가시키기 위한 마이크로 렌즈 어레이의 사용에 관한 것이다.
현재, 표면 실장 패키징은 회로 기판으로의 대량 접속이 저렴한 방식으로 행해질 수 있다는 점 때문에, 많은 분야에서 상당히 상업적인 이익을 내고 있다. 쿼드 플랫 패키지(Quad Flat Package:QFP)로 알려진, 이런 표면 실장 집적회로 패킹 기술에서, 패키지는, 기판에 패키지를 위치시키고, 열을 가함으로써 인쇄 회로 기판(PCB)과 같은, 회로 기판에 접속될 수 있다. 열은 패키지의 일표면상의 복수의 접점을 녹여서 패키지를 보드에 접속시킨다. 이 기술로 인해, 집적회로는 고속 그리고, 저가의 자동방식으로 회로 기판에 접속될 수 있다.

마이크로 렌즈는 포지티브 포토 레지스트 또는 졸 겔로 이루어 진다. 이들 마이크로 렌즈 어레이는 예를들어, 이미지 감지 어레이상에 재치된 컬러 필터 어레이(CFA)의 상부에 마이크로 렌즈 어레이를 위치시킴으로써, 이미지 센서의 최상부에 직접적으로 형성될 수 있다. 대안적으로, 마이크로 렌즈는 이미지 감지 어레이 상으로 이격될 수 있다. 어쨌든, 본 발명자들이 알고 있는 한에서는, 마이크로 렌즈가 일반적으로 열 민감성이여서, 표면 실장 패키지에 사용되지 않았다. 약 225℃의 온도에서 몇분 동안 있는 종래의 표면 실장 패킹은 종래의 마이크로 렌즈 어레이에 역효과를 주었다고 사려된다.
따라서, 마이크로 어레이를 사용해서, 수광가능한 개선된 필팩터를 가지고, 저가의 패킹 기술을 감광 디바이스에 적용시킬 수 있는 기술이 지속적으로 요구되었다.
도 1을 참조하면, 마이크로 렌즈 어레이(10)는 본 발명의 일 실시예에 따라 채널(14)로 분리된 복수의 마이크로 렌즈(12)를 포함할 수 있다. 도시된 마이크로 렌즈(12)에서, 직사각형 또는 정사각형의 형상은 채널(14)에 의해 낭비되는 공간량을 줄일 수 있고, 이로써 필팩터가 향상된다. 정밀한 돔 형상의 마이크로 렌즈(12)는 도시된 것에 비해서, 곡면을 증가시키거나 감소시킴으로써 조정될 수 있다. 직사각형 마이크로 렌즈에 더해서, 원형 또는 반구형 마이크로 렌즈를 사용하는 것을 포함한 다른 종래의 형상이 사용될 수 있다.
마이크로 렌즈 어레이(10)는 실질적으로, 노발락(novalac)과 같은 투광성의 포지티브 포토레지스트로 구성될 수 있다. 어레이(10)는 표면 실장 패키지를 회로 기판에 결합시킬 때 포함되는 매스 리플로 온도 스텝을 잘 견딘다. 종래의 마이크로 렌즈에 있어서, 렌즈의 투광성과 그 형상에 역효과를 주는 높은 표면 실장 온도에 노출될 때, 마이크로 렌즈의 광학 특성은 저하된다. 마이크로 렌즈 어레이(10)을 사용하는 개선된 감광 디바이스는 공지된 저가의 표면실장 패키지의 프로세스를 사용할 수 있다.
도 2를 참조로, 우선 마이크로 렌즈를 형성하기 위해 사용되는 물질이 CFA레이어, 글라스 기판 또는 어떤 경우에는 26으로 표시된 감광 디바이스등의 적절한 표면에 직접적으로 스핀 코팅된다. 비록 도 2에서는 마이크로 렌즈를 형성하는 물질을 도포하기 위해 스핀 코팅을 사용하는 것으로 나타내었지만, 기타 공지된 기술이 사용될 수도 있다. 이후에, 코팅된 물질은 28로 나타낸 소프트 베이크 스텝을 거친다. 본 발명의 일실시예에서, 마이크로 렌즈 형성 물질은 약 3 마이크론 두께로 코팅될 수 있고, 약 100℃의 온도, 예를들어 540밀리초동안 110℃의 온도를 사용해서 소프트 베이크될 수 있다. 소프트 베이크에 사용되는 시간 및 온도의 양은 가변적일 수 있고, 코팅된 물질의 두께의 함수가 될 수 있다. 따라서, 베이크된 코팅은 도 2의 30에 나타난 바와 같이, 포토 리소그래피이다.
포토리소그래피에 따라서, (마이크로 렌즈가 될) 블록(16)은 본 발명의 일실시예에서, 도 3에 도시된 형상을 취할 수 있다. 어떤 경우에, 블록은 약 3.5마이크론의 폭을 가질 수 있는 홈(18)에 의해서 서로 이격된다. 장벽은 약 3의 기울기로 형성될 수 있다. 바람직한 실시예에서, 각각의 블록(16)은 약 9 마이크론의 길이를 갖는다. 블록은 블록(32)에 나타난 바와 같이, 포토레지스트 처리 기술과 같은 종래의 기술을 사용해서 패턴화된다.
마이크로 렌즈 블록(16)은 블록(34)에 나타난 바와 같이 표백된다. 표백 처리는, 투광성을 높이기 위해 고온에 노출될 때, 마이크로 렌즈의 저하를 방지하는데 유용하다.
표백은 약 5 내지 10초정도의 빠른 표백 스텝이 될 수 있고, 일부 실시예에서는 6 내지 7초이다. 표백은 예를들어, 350 내지 430nm의 파장을 내는 딥 울트라바이올렛(DUV) 파장 방사선을 사용해서 행해진다. UV필터는 상기 약 400nm이상의 파장을 통과시킨다. 이는 광대역 방사선을 사용하고, 30초를 취할 수 있는 종래의표백에 비해서, 표백 시간을 감소시킨다. 400nm보다 큰 파장으로 사용하는 DUV표백은 포토 레지스트 물질에서 광활성물질을 제거하는데 매우 효과적이다. 광활성물질은 옐로윙(yellowing), 투명도상실 또는 열 변이의 원인이라고 사려된다.
표백된 블록(16)은 리플로 스텝(36)을 거친다. 본 발명의 일실시예에서, 리플로 스텝은 약 150℃의 온도, 예를들어 160℃에서 약 120초 동안을 포함한다. 결과적으로, 도 3에 도시된 블록은 녹아서 도 4에 도시된 블록을 형성한다. 마이크로 렌즈(12)는 채널(14)에 의해 분리된다. 마이크로 렌즈(12)의 높이(T)는 본 발명의 일 실시예에서, 약 2.8 마이크론이 될 수 있고, 렌즈(12)는 약 11.5마이크론의 높이를 가질 수 있다.
렌즈는 약 200℃의 온도, 예를들어 225℃에서 약 2-3분동안에 하드 베이크 스텝(블록38)에 노출될 수 있다. 일반적으로 종래의 처리방법은, 특히 오버래핑을 피하기 위해서 각각의 마이크로 렌즈사이의 공간을 최적화시킨다.
이후에, 마이크로 렌즈(12)를 구비한 이미저는 패키징된다(블록40). 따라서, 마이크로 렌즈는 렌즈의 광학 특성에 역효과를 주지 않고, 표면 실장 패키지를 매스 리플로하기 위해 사용되는 종래의 온도에 노출될 수 있다. 일부 실시예에서, 마이크로 렌즈는 적어도 225℃의 온도에서 적어도 1분, 일부 실시예에서는 적어도 2분동안 견디기에 적합한다. 일부 실시예에서 투광성이 변하지 않았을 뿐만아니라, 렌즈의 형상에 어떠한 영향도 주지 않았다.
도 5를 참조하면, 마이크로 렌즈 어레이(44)는 표면 실장 패키지(48)에 장착된 감광 디바이스(46)의 상부에 위치될 수 있다. 외장형 굴절 렌즈(42)는 마이크로렌즈 어레이(44)를 통과하는 광의 초점을 감광 디바이스(46)상에 맞출 수 있다. 본 발명의 일 실시예에서, 윈도우화된 쿼드 플랫 패키지(48)는 종래의 표면 실장 패키징 기술에 따라서, 리드(50)를 사용해서 회로 기판(52)에 고정될 수 있다. 열을 가할 때, 리드(50)는 패키지(48)를 회로 기판(52)에 본딩한다. 이는 마이크로 렌즈 어레이(44)의 광학 성능에 역효과를 주지않고 행해질 수 있다.

- 제 1 항에 있어서, 적어도 200℃에서, 적어도 약 2분동안 마이크로 렌즈 형성물질을 하드 베이크하는 단계를 더 포함하는 것을 특징으로 하는 방법.
- 제 1 항에 있어서, 상기 물질이 200℃이상의 온도에서 적어도 2분 동안 열적으로 안정될 수 있기에 충분한 시간 및 온도에서, 마이크로 렌즈를 하드 베이크하는 단계를 더 포함하는 것을 특징으로 하는 방법.
- 감광 어레이;상기 감광 어레이상에 형성된 마이크로 렌즈; 및상기 감광 어레이를 장착한 패키지를 포함하고,상기 패키지는 표면 실장 기술을 사용해서 회로기판에 고정되기에 적합한 것을 특징으로 하는 패키징된 감광 디바이스.
- 제 12 항에 있어서, 상기 마이크로 렌즈는 직사각형인 것을 특징으로 하는 디바이스.
- 제 12 항에 있어서, 상기 마이크로 렌즈는 포지티브 포토레지스트로 형성된 것을 특징으로 하는 디바이스.
- 제 12 항에 있어서, 상기 마이크로 렌즈는 딥 울트라바이올렛으로 표백된 것을 특징으로 하는 디바이스.
- 제 12 항에 있어서, 상기 마이크로 렌즈는 적어도 200℃의 온도에서 2분동안 견디기에 적합한 것을 특징으로 하는 디바이스.
- 제 12 항에 있어서, 상기 패키지는 윈도우화된 쿼드 플랫 패키지인 것을 특징으로 하는 디바이스.
- 열 안정 마이크로 렌즈를 형성하는 방법에 있어서,약 400 나노미터 이상의 파장을 갖는 딥 울트라바이올렛 방사선을 사용해서 마이크로 렌즈 형성 물질을 표백하는 단계; 및상기 물질이 약 200℃의 온도에서 적어도 2분 동안 열 안정될 수 있기에 충분한 온도 및 시간에서 상기 물질을 하드 베이크하는 단계를 포함하는 것을 특징으로 하는 방법.
- 제 18 항에 있어서, 적어도 200℃의 온도에서 적어도 2분 동안 상기 물질을 하드 베이크하는 단계를 더 포함하는 것을 특징으로 하는 방법.
- 제 18 항에 있어서, 약 10초 동안 상기 물질을 표백하는 단계를 더 포함하는 것을 특징으로 하는 방법.
