Abstract

ＲＦＩＤ 태그를 갖는 아이템을 마련하기 위한 방법 및 장치{METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR PREPARING AN ITEM WITH AN RFID TAG}
본 출원은 2004년 7월 29일자 출원된 미국 가특허 출원번호 제60/592,843호의 장점을 청구하며, 그 최종 명세서는 참조로 본 발명에 포함된다.
헬스케어 산업에서, 공급 제품들의 가용성은 중요하다. 제품 사용법 추적(tracking), 신속한 보충(replenishment), 사용자 추적, 및 비용청구용 환자 추적을 제공하는 다양한 시스템들이 존재한다.
또한, 상기 추적을 수행하여 유출 또는 도난을 방지하기 위해 필요한 데이터의 기입(entry) 없이 아이템들의 제거를 방지하는 폐쇄 캐비넷(cabinet) 시스템들이 존재한다. 이러한 시스템은 오퍼레이팅 룸(OR) 또는 캐스 랩(cath lab)에서 사용되는 값비싼 아이템들에 특히 적용가능하다. 그러나, 폐쇄 캐비넷 시스템들은 배터리, 붕대, 삼푸, 펜 등과 같은 헬스케어 설비 외부에서 유용한 저렴한 아이템들의 고용량 전환(high volume diversion)에 적용가능하고, 사용자는 아이템이 너무 작아서 "도난"되지 않은 것으로 간주할 수 있다.
이러한 시스템의 개발시, 사용자, 제품 및 계좌 번호 또는 환자를 식별하기 위해 필요한 데이터를 기입하는 동시에 접근(access)의 편의성과 속도를 균형 맞추 는 것이 목적이다. 편의성과 보안을 위해 바람직하게, 캔디 머신(candy machine)과 동일한 방식으로 개별 제품을 분배하는 시스템들은 일반적으로 너무 비싸고, 특별한 패키징을 요구하며, 병원에서 소유할 필요가 있는 제품의 다양한 크기 및 구성들 면에서 융통성이 없다. 이들은 또한 아이템들이 개별적으로 이격되고 하우징되기 때문에 대단히 공간 효율적이지 못하다.
제품들 상의 RFID 태그들의 사용은 값비싼 분배(dispensing) 시스템들에 대한 필요성 없이 개별 제품들을 추적하는 기회를 나타낸다. 이것은 특히 RFID 태그들을 적용하는 부가 비용을 발생시킬 수 밖에 없는 값비싼 제품인 것이 사실이다. RFID 태그들은 바코드들처럼 제품들에서 현재 이용가능하지 않고, 수년 동안 헬스케어 제품들에 일반적으로 이용가능한 것이 아니다.

이하에서 본 발명의 몇가지 예시적인 실시예들이 기술된다. 도시된 특정 실시예들과 관련하여 논의의 용이함을 위해 특정한 특징들이 기술되지만, 통상의 당업자는 본 발명의 명세서를 기초로 다양한 진보적 특징들이 본 발명의 많은 상이한 실시예들에 따라 조합될 수 있다는 것을 이해할 것이다. 따라서, 이하에 예시된 실시예들은 단지 예로서만 제공되고 첨부된 청구범위에 의해서만 규정되는 본 발명의 범주를 제한하는 것으로 고려되어서는 안된다.
현재, 헬스케어 산업에 사용하기 위한 제품들은 RFID 태그들을 갖지 않는다. 본 발명의 일 양상에 따라, RFID 태그들을 제품들에 적용하는 것이 바람직하다. 일 예에서, 다수 판독(read-many) 고유 ID를 포함하는 태그가 사용될 수 있다. 이러한 경우들에서, RFID 태그는 판독될 수 있고 특정 제품과 연관된 번호가 판독될 수 있다. 태그와 제품의 연관 이전에, RFID 태그들은 제품들에 자유롭게 적용될 수 있다 - 예를 들어, 특정 제품에는 어떠한 특정 태그도 적용되지 않는다. 이것은 상대적으로 비숙련된 사람이 RFID 태그들을 제품들에 부가하는 작업을 수행할 수 있기 때문에 유용하다. 일부 경우들(예, 액체 및 금속)에서, 표면으로부터 태그를 들어올리기 위해 태그와 제품 사이에 스페이서를 배치하는 것이 바람직할 수 있다.
RFID 태그가 제품에 부착된 이후, 각 제품으로부터 태그가 중앙 컴퓨터와 연동되는 데이터베이스로 판독된다. 해당 제품 정보는 적절한 RFID 태그와 연관되어 데이터베이스에 기입된다. 제품 정보는 이하의 일부 또는 전부에 제한되지 않지만 이하를 포함할 수 있다: 1) 병원 데이터베이스에 사용되는 내부 제품 ID 번호; 2) 보관소 번호; 3) 일련번호; 4) 만료일; 및/또는 5) UPN 또는 HIBCC 바코드. 많은 제품 정보는 제품상에 바코드 형태로 이미 있을 수 있다. 예를 들어, 병원의 내부 제품 ID는 일반적으로 다른 병원 데이터베이스들을 이용하여 제품상의 UPN으로부터 추정될 수 있다. 따라서, 이러한 정보를 고유한 RFID 태그 번호와 연관시키는 프로세스는 단순한 스캐닝 프로세스일 수 있다. 먼저, RFID 스캐닝 장치는 RFID 태그 번호를 스캔한다. 그 다음, 바코드 스캐닝 장치는 UPN을 스캔한다(다른 테이블로부터 병원 ID 번호를 리트리브(retrieve)하여). 마지막으로, 바코드 스캐너는 보관소 번호와 일련번호를 스캔한다(적용가능하면).
몇몇 경우들에서, 번호들은 단일 바코드 스캐닝으로부터 판독될 수 있도록 하기 위해 인코딩된다. 따라서, 프로세스를 자동화할 수 있다. 연관되지 않는 RFID 태그들을 가진 아이템들은 컨베이어 벨트 상에 배치된다. 아이템들은 RFID 번호를 판독하는 판독 터널을 통과한다. 바코드 판독 시스템은 제품 패키지 상의 임의의 바코드(들)를 판독한다. 컴퓨터는 정보를 파싱(parsing)하고 RFID 태그로부터의 RFID 번호를 바코드로부터의 제품 정보와 연관시킨다.
더욱이, 유사 형태의 제품들이 동시에 통과하면, 컴퓨터는 어떤 바코드들과 어떤 정보가 예상되는지에 대해 프로그래밍될 수 있다. 이것은 누락되거나 의심스러운 정보를 가진 제품들이 재판독 또는 수동 판독을 위해 "재판독 호퍼(hopper)"로 유출되도록 허용한다.
선택적 실시예에서, 제품은 동일한 제 2 컨베이어와 판독 터널을 통해 전송될 수 있다. 제품과 연관된 정보는 제 2 시간에 판독된다. 제 2 판독은 이전에 데이터베이스로 판독된 정보에 대해 체크된다. 불일치가 있으면, 제품은 유출되고 거부될 수 있다.
본 발명의 다른 양상은 알람 및 경보 용량을 제공한다. 본 예에서, 분배되는 아이템과 연관된 특정 메시지에 대해 사용자에게 경보하도록 긴급한 알람 또는 경보가 사용자에게 발령될 필요가 있는 경우들이 있을 수 있다.
도 1은 새롭게 부착된 RFID 태그들(23)과 현존하는 바코드들(24)을 갖는 제품(22)을 포함하는 자동 판독기를 도시한다. 제품들은 모터와 하우징(20)에 의해 구동되는 이동 컨베이어 벨트(21)상에 배치된다. 제품은 판독 터널(25)에 진입하고, 여기서 RFID 스캐너가 태그(26)를 판독하며 레이저 판독기들(27)의 어레이는 제품상의 바코드(들)를 판독한다. 결과적인 정보는 컴퓨터(29)에 전송되고, 여기서 정보는 데이터베이스에 저장된다. 제품은 수집 장치(28)로 진행한다. 수집 장치(28)의 일 실시예는 출구에 2개의 벨트들, 허용된 벨트 또는 거부된 벨트를 포함한다. 제품은 각각 양호한 판독 또는 나쁜 판독에 따라 허용된 벨트 또는 거부된 벨트로 유도된다.
또 다른 실시예에서, 2개의 터널들이 있으며, 제 2 터널은 제 1 터널과 동일한 정보를 판독한다. 제 2 터널을 이용하여 제 2 판독으로부터 수집된 이러한 정보는 컴퓨터(29)를 사용하는 제 1 터널을 이용하는 제 1 판독과 비교된다. 2개의 판독들이 일치하지 않으면, 제품은 거부된다. 컴퓨터(29)는 벨트로부터 재작동 호퍼로 특정 제품을 유출시키거나 제거하는 구동 메커니즘을 사용한다. 그 다음, 기술자는 재작동 호퍼에서 제품을 검사하고, 필요시 제품을 다시 라벨링할 수 있다.

Claims (5)

  1. RFID 태그를 제품에 부가하기 위한 방법으로서,
    상기 RFID 태그를 상기 제품에 부착하는 단계 ― 상기 RFID 태그는 태그 식별 정보를 갖고, 상기 RFID 태그가 상기 제품에 부착될 때, 상기 태그 식별 정보와 제품 식별 정보 사이에 연관성이 존재하지 않음 ―;
    RF 판독기를 통해 상기 RFID 태그로부터 상기 태그 식별 정보를 판독하는 단계;
    전자 판독 장치를 이용하여 상기 제품으로부터 제품 식별자(identifier)를 판독하는 단계;
    데이터베이스와 연관된 컴퓨터 시스템을 이용하여 상기 RFID 태그로부터의 상기 태그 식별 정보를 상기 제품 식별자와 연관시키는 단계; 및
    상기 RFID 태그로부터의 상기 태그 식별 정보와 상기 제품 식별자 사이의 연관성을 상기 데이터베이스에 저장하는 단계
    를 포함하는 RFID 태그를 제품에 부가하기 위한 방법.
  2. 제 1 항에 있어서,
    상기 제품 정보는 병원 데이터베이스에 사용되는 내부 제품 ID 번호, 보관소(lot) 번호, 일련번호(serial number), 만료일, 및 UPN 또는 HIBCC 바코드를 포함하는 그룹에서 선택되는,
    RFID 태그를 제품에 부가하기 위한 방법.
  3. RFID 태그와 제품 식별 정보를 연관시키기 위한 자동 판독 시스템으로서,
    제품 식별 정보를 포함하는 바코드 및 RFID 태그를 갖는 제품을 이동시키기 위한 컨베이어 벨트;
    제 1 RFID 스캐너와 제 1 바코드 스캐너를 포함하는 제 1 터널 ― 상기 제 1 터널은 상기 컨베이어 벨트 아래로 이동하는 상기 제품 상의 상기 RFID 태그 및 상기 바코드를 판독하기 위해 상기 컨베이어 벨트 상부에 위치됨 ―;
    상기 제품을 수용하기 위한 수집(collecting) 장치;
    상기 RFID 태그와 상기 제품 식별 정보 사이의 연관성을 기록하기 위한 데이터베이스를 갖는 컴퓨터 시스템; 및
    제 2 RFID 스캐너 및 제 2 바코드 스캐너를 갖는 제 2 터널 ― 상기 컴퓨터 시스템은 상기 제 1 바코드 스캐너 및 상기 제 1 RFID 스캐너의 판독을 상기 제 2 바코드 스캐너 및 상기 제 2 RFID 스캐너의 판독과 비교하여 판독들이 동일한지 여부를 확인하도록 구성됨 ―

  4. 제 3 항에 있어서,
    상기 수집 장치는 허용된 벨트(accepted belt) 및 거부된 벨트(rejected belt)를 포함하는,
    RFID 태그와 제품 식별 정보를 연관시키기 위한 자동 판독 시스템.
