Claims (10)
- 높은 수준의 다중화가 가능한 액정 디스플레이 장치에 있어서,평행하게 이격된 2개의 셀 벽들간에 포함된 다색 재료(an amount of pleochroic material)를 포함하는 긴 피치 콜레스테릭 액정 재료의 층으로서, 양의 유전 이방성(positive dielectric anisotropy), 15㎛ 보다 작은 층 두께(d), 자연 콜레스테릭 피치(p), 피치(p)로 나누어진 층 두께(d)의 비가 0.5와 1.0사이의 값을 갖는, 상기 긴 피치 콜레스테릭 액정 재료의 층과,m 및 n 이 32 보다 큰 값인, 어드레스 가능한 요소들의 m x n 매트릭스를 형성하기 위해, m개의 분리된 전극들의 제 1 시리즈로 한 쪽 셀 벽에 배열된 전극 구조와, n개의 분리된 전극들의 제 2 시리즈로 다른 쪽 셀 벽에 배열된 전극 구조와,상기 액정 재료와 접하여 경사진 동형(homogeneous)구조로 액정 분자들을 정렬시키기 위한 상기 2개의 셀 벽들상의 표면 정렬로서, 균일한 경사 방향을 가지며 상기 층을 횡단하여 180°보다 크고 360°보다 작은 점진적인 분자 트위스트를 제공하기 위해 상기 콜레스테릭 재료에 대해 정합(match)되는, 상기 표면 정렬과,상기 액정 재료의 분자 배향에 따라 투과광을 선택적으로 흡수하기 위해 상기 액정 재료층과 상호 작용하는 적어도 하나의 편광판과,전압원으로부터의 전압을 상기 전극 구조의 2개의 시리즈에 RMS 멀티플렉스된 순서(RMS multiplexed sequence)로 반복적으로 인가하기 위한 2 셋트들의 구동기 회로들 및 제어 논리 회로를 포함하며,상기 어드레스 가능한 요소들의 각각이 광투과 상태와 광흡수 상태 사이를 직접 스위치될 수 있고, 날카로운 투과/ 전압 특성을 갖지만 실질적인 히스테리시스를 갖지 않도록, 상기 재료의 탄성 및 유전 상수들, 상기 표면 정렬에 의해 유도된 분자 경사 및 트위스트 각도, 상기 재료의 층 두께 및 자연 피치의 상기 장치의 파라미터들이 집합적으로 조정(collectively arranged)되는, 높은 수준의 다중화가 가능한 액정 디스플레이 장치.
- 제 1 항에 있어서,상기 2 개의 구동기 회로들은V 2 의 rms 값을 ON 상태가 될 필요가 있는 어드레스 가능한 요소들에 인가하고,V 1 의 rms 값을 OFF 상태가 될 필요가 있는 어드레스 가능한 요소들에 인가하며 ,V 2 / V 1 의 비가 1.165 보다 작거나 같은 값인, 높은 수준의 다중화가 가능한 액정 디스플레이 장치.
- 제 1 항에 있어서,상기 표면 정렬 유도된 분자 트위스트 각도 및 피치(p)는 상기 액정 재료의 상기 층에 스트레인(strain)을 유도하도록 조정된, 높은 수준의 다중화가 가능한 액정 디스플레이 장치.
- 제 1 항에 있어서,상기 표면 처리는 5°까지의 액정 분자 경사를 제공하고, 비율 d/p는 0.5와 0.75 사이에 있는, 높은 수준의 다중화가 가능한 액정 디스플레이 장치.
- 제 1 항에 있어서,상기 표면 처리는 적어도 하나의 셀 벽에 5°와 70°사이의 액정 분자 경사를 제공하는, 높은 수준의 다중화가 가능한 액정 디스플레이 장치.
- 제 1 항에 있어서,광학적으로 상기 셀의 뒷면에 반사판(reflector)을 더 포함하는, 수준의 다중화가 가능한 액정 디스플레이 장치.
- 제 1 항에 있어서,상기 분자 트위스트는 약 270°인, 높은 수준의 다중화가 가능한 액정 디스플레이 장치.
- 제 1 항에 있어서,상기 액정 재료의 온도 변화를 보상하기 위하여 상기 액정 재료의 온도를 감지하고 상기 구동기 회로들에 의해 인가된 상기 전압들을 변화시키기 위한 수단을 더 포함하는, 높은 수준의 다중화가 가능한 액정 디스플레이 장치.
- 제 1 항에 있어서,상기 투과광을 선택적으로 흡수하기 위한 상기 적어도 하나의 편광판은, 상기 액정 재료를 통과하는 광을 편광시키기 위한 편광판이고, 상기 액정 재료를 통과한 이후의 광을 편광시키기 위한 편광판인, 높은 수준의 다중화가 가능한 액정 디스플레이 장치.
- 제 1 항에 있어서,상기 액정 재료의 온도 변화를 보상하기 위해 상기 구동기 회로들에 의해 인가된 전압들을 변화시키기 위한 수단을 더 포함하는, 높은 수준의 다중화가 가능한 액정 디스플레이 장치.
