Abstract

PURPOSE:To supply liquid nitrogen stably, by providing a relay having a solenoid coil of superconducting material and a pump operable through turning ON/OFF of the relay. CONSTITUTION:A solenoid coil 15 is in superconducting state when a relay 14 is in liquid nitrogen, and produces a magnetic field through superconducting current fed from an external power source. A movable iron chip 16 is attracted to the coil 15 so as to turn an electrical contact 17 OFF. When liquid nitrogen level drops below the relay 14, temperature increases to bring the coil 15 into a normal conducting state so as to turn the contact 17 ON through the iron chip 16 and a spring. Consequently, a pump 13 is started to supply liquid nitrogen stably.
