Abstract

896,143. Electromagnetic switches. STRIDER, P. W. Dec. 18, 1959 [Dec. 19, 1958], No. 43034/59. Class 38 (5). An electromagnetic switch having a plunger armature and washer type moving contact bridges mounted thereon has axially and radially-spaced fixed contacts selectively bridged by differing diameter washers in the two switch positions. A housing 12 containing the coil 70 having leads connected to terminals 60, 80, is secured to a base 16 carrying four terminals 30 . . . 33. Terminals 30, 31 carry diametricallyopposed coplanar contacts 35, 36 and terminals 32, 33 carry diametrically opposed coplanar contacts 37, 38. Four terminals 41, 42, 61, 74 secured in the housing 12 carry contacts 48, 49, 59, 73, each pair being coplanar. The armature 85 has a shank 87 carrying four insulating members 94 97 retained on the shank by a fixed washer 93. Contact washers 91, 92 occupy spaces 104, 106 between members 95, 96, 97 and a light spring 102 urges washer 90 toward a shoulder 100 on the member 94. A spring 99, stronger than the armature return spring 88, acts between the members 94 and 96. In the de-energized position shown, the washer 90 bridges contacts 35, 36 and the washer 91 bridges contacts 37, 38. In the energized position the washer 91 bridges contacts 59, 73 and the washer 92 bridges contacts 48, 49, the spring 99 being strained so as to augment the restoring force of the spring 88 on de-energization.
