Abstract

PURPOSE:To enhance the momentary output stability of an axial flow type CO2 laser and to improve cutting area accuracy in cutting work by controlling the operation point of a laser gas pressure so as to set it to a point of maximum laser output curve. CONSTITUTION:In a graph showing the relationship between a laser gas pressure and a laser output, an abscissa axis is a laser gas pressure P, and an ordinate axis is a laser output W. As shown, the laser output initially increases upon increase of the laser gas pressure P, and becomes maximum at a point B. Thereafter, it decreases as the laser gas pressure further increases. Accordingly, the laser output can be represented by W=-k(P-P0)<2>+W0, where the coordinates of the point B is (P0, W0). When the operation point of a point A is selected from this result, an output variation DELTAW1 is DELTAW1=-2k(P-P0) DELTAP. On the other hand, an output variation DELTAW2 when the operation point is at B, is DELTAW2=0. The laser output at this time is momentarily stable to improve its cutting area accuracy.
