Abstract

PURPOSE: To greatly alleviate the cutting precision allowed at the time of cutting, by applying gas gouging of linear semi-elliptical form to the position forming part of bottom curve of the J-(U-)shaped groove at the junction end, when processing the J-(U-)shaped groove using gas gouging and gas cutting at the same time.
CONSTITUTION: A gouging face 3 having a linear part parallel to the junction end is pierced in semi-elliptical form in the junction end of a base metal 1 by gas gouging torch. The base metal 1 is then cut in an oblique direction toward the linear by means of gas cutting torch 4. As a result, the cuttable range is enlarged by the linear portion (shaded part), and the cutting precision allowed at the time of cutting may be greately alleviated by the corresponding portion. Besides, when the cutting line 5 is placed on the linear part of the gouging face, dross does not flow directly into the gouging face 3. In addition, the groove may be machined easily under the similar gas cutting conditions as in the conventional V-groove preparation method.
