Abstract
PURPOSE:To prevent the tension concentration to a core by providing a layer consisting of pure quartz as a tension absorbing layer in contact with the outermost circumferential part of a clad. CONSTITUTION:The core 1 consisting of the pure quartz, the clad 2 consisting of quartz added with fluorine having the refractive index lower than the refractive index of the core and the tension absorbing layer 3 consisting of the pure quartz glass in contact with the outermost circumferential part of the clad are provided. The diameter of the core 1 is specified to >=3mum and <=20mum; the amt. of the fluorine to be added to the clad 2 to >=2wt.% and <=4wt.%, and the thickness of the tension absorbing layer 3 to >=5mum and <=30mum. The change in the refractive index by the fluctuation in the drawing conditions of the core is thereby suppressed and the desired characteristics are obtd.
