Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a light transmission body preventing peeling of a clad from a core and having high light transmission efficiency, by fluorimating the surface of a rod or a fibrous body of a transparent synthetic resin to form a fluorinated resin surface layer lower in refractive index than the synthetic resin core. CONSTITUTION:Purified methyl methacrylate or the like is block-polymerized, and the obtained transparent synthetic resin is extruded to form a rod or a fiber. Gaseous fluorine (F2) diluted to 0.1-25 volume % with gaseous nitrogen is allowed to react with the surface of the resin to form a 1-10mum thick fluorinated thin resin layer, thus pemitting the thin layer lower in refractive index than the core part, both the core part and the clad laye fluorinated to combine strongly with each other, and a light transmission body high in light transmission efficiency to be easily obtained.
