Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent the bricks in a flash smelting furnace from being damaged by measuring the length of the slag layer existing in the furnace and adjusting the blowing speed of the powder smelting raw materials and gas for reaction from a lance pipe according to the measured length. CONSTITUTION:The powder smelting raw materials such as ore, flux and fuel as well as the gas 2 for reaction are blown into the flash smelting furnace by the lance pipe 1 inserted from the settler part of the furnace into the furnace and are penetrated through the slag layer 3 so as to react with a matte layer 4 while splashes 7 are generated. The thickness of the slag layer 3 existing in the furnace is measured at this time and the blowing speed from the lance pipe is so adjusted that the blowing speed attains the range determined according to the measured thickness. The hearth bricks 6 are thereby protected and the damage of the ceiling bricks and side wall bricks by the excessive splashes 7 is prevented.
