Abstract

PURPOSE:To equalize the ratio of the quantity of transmitted light to incident light among all of the primary colors by varying the pretilt angle of liquid crystal molecules every elements of the primary colors. CONSTITUTION:Oriented films 3 and formed on the internal surfaces of incidence-side and projection-side substrates 1 and 1' and a liquid crystal layer 2 is formed between the films 3. Then the films 3 consists of oriented film components 3R, 3G and 3B corresponding to picture elements 5R, 5G and 5B constituting a picture element P. Said components 3R-3B are formed preferably of mutually different orienting materials. For example, those different components are formed by photolithography and processed by the same rubbing. Further, a film which is vapor-deposited slantingly while a flying angle is varied is preferable.
