Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent knocking from continuously occurring by correcting the ignition timing of each cylinder individually to advance or delay according to the knocking condition of each cylinder and on the other hand by correcting the ignition timings of all the cylinders to delay if knocking occurs in one cylinder at the time of transitional operation. CONSTITUTION:Providing each cylinder of a multicylinder internal combustion engine with a knocking detection means 1 for detecting the knocking of each cylinder, the detected signal is inputted to an advance-delay angle correction means and a transitional delay angle correction means 4 for each cylinder. During the normal operation, the ignition timing of each cylinder is corrected to advance or delay according to the knocking condition of each cylinder by means of the advance-delay angle correction means 2 for each cylinder. When a transitional operating condition such as acceleration is detected with a transitional operation detecting means 3 on the other hand, and knocking in any one of the cylinders in detected, it is made to correct the ignition timings of all the cylinders by a specified amount of delay angle by means of the transitional delay angle correction means 4.
