Abstract
PURPOSE:To sufficiently secure the output performance and prevent knocking by setting the ignition timing to the preset value near MBT and correcting the air fuel ratio to the rich side when the sensor of a combustion state detecting means fails. CONSTITUTION:A combustion state detecting means A detecting the combustion state regarding the knocking of a cylinder internal pressure sensor detecting the cylinder internal pressure of each cylinder and a knocking vibration sensor or the like is provided, and the ignition timing is controlled by an ignition timing control means B in response to the output signal. The fuel injection quantity or the like is controlled by an air fuel ratio control means C for the optimum air fuel ratio in response to various operation conditions. A sensor failure judging means D judging the presence of a failure of the sensor of the combustion state detecting means A is provided. When a failure is judged to occur, the ignition timing is set to the preset value near MBT by an ignition timing judging means at failure E, and the air fuel ratio is corrected to the rich side by an air fuel ratio correcting means at failure F.
