Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent occurrence of high-level knocking of engine, by delaying the ignition timing of the engine by a predetermined angle when some trouble is caused with a vibration sensor for detecting vibration of the engine. CONSTITUTION:A vibration sensor 1 utilizing a magnetostrictive element or the like is attached, for instance, to the cylinder block or manifold or an engine. A buffer circuit 12 is employed for increasing the input impedance of a knocking detecting circuit 7. When no trouble is caused with the vibration sensor 1, a timing signal ST of a distributor 9 is delayed by a phase controlling circuit 8 to an extent determined by a voltage Va corresponding to the level of knocking, and the result is given to an ignitor 10 as a corrected timing signal ST'. On the other hand, if some trouble is caused with the vibration sensor 1, the timing signal ST is delayed to an extent corresponding to a predetermined voltage Vf and give to the ignition 10 as corrected timing signal ST'.
