Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a corrosion proof covering layer, which is excellent in corrosion resistance and heat resistance at the weld of a steel pipe by a method wherein the steel pipe is coated with primer having specified composition and applied by thermosetting corrosion proof tape having specified structure. CONSTITUTION:A primer layer containing an organic solvent is formed on the surface of a steel pipe. Next, before the organic solvent in the primer volatilize, thermosetting corrosion proof tape consisting of heat-resistant polyolefin 1 having adherent polyolefin layers 2 and 2', both of which are formed on both sides of the polyolefin 1 and on one of which an adhesive layer 3 consisting of epoxy resin composition reinforced by woven cloth or non-woven cloth is formed, is wound round the steel pipe one over another. The primer contains cold-setting hardener, which can cure epoxy resin at atmospheric temperature, and is applied to the surface, which necessitates covering, especially to the weld of the steel pipe. When the primer is applied to the back of the corrosion proof tape, the primer comes into contact with the adhesive layer, resulting in developing the quick hardening reaction of the primer at atmospheric temperature.
