Abstract

PURPOSE:To make a creeping discharge on a dielectric surface uniform in intensity by a method wherein an auxiliary electrode is provided so as to face a laser gas passage through intermediary of the dielectric. CONSTITUTION:An upper primary electrode 12 and a lower primary electrode 13 are provided apart in a device main body 11 so as to face each other and the electrode section of the lower primary electrode 13 is composed of many wires 14 disposed in a prescribed pitch. An auxiliary electrode 16 is provided on the rear side of the lower primary electrode 13 through the intermediary of a dielectric 15. By shifting the positions of the wires 14 of the lower primary electrode 12 and wires 17 of the auxiliary electrode 16, a creeping discharge on the dielectric surface is hard to concentrate in the wires 14, so that the creeping discharge occurs uniformly along the whole length of the space between the adjacent wires 14. By these processes, the discharge for preionization occur uniformly on the whole surface of the dielectric 15 and a discharge space 26 is uniformly pre-ionized, and thus laser rays uniform in the pattern can be oscillated.
