Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a laser beam having an even output by a method wherein a corona electrode is formed by inserting a plurality of metallic wires in a cylindrical body formed of a dielectric in a flat and hollow form at prescribed intervals in the width direction of the cylindrical body. CONSTITUTION:A corona electrode 15 is constituted of a cylindrical body 16, which is formed of such a dielectric as a glass and has a section formed into a flat and oblong form, and a plurality of metallic wires 17 disposed in tension in this body 16 and the electrode 15 is arranged in a recessed part 2a at the back of a wire mesh 26 of a cathode 2. The width of the body 16 is formed larger than the discharge width of a main discharge and the thickness thereof is set in several mm or more. The wires 17 are provided in a ratio of several wires per 1 mm in the width direction of the body 16. After a discharge space part is pre-ionized by the electrode 15, the main discharge is generated between the cathode 2, which is a main electrode, and an anode 3 and a laser beam of a roughly even intensity distribution is obtained.
