Abstract

PURPOSE:To measure the volume of sands on a barge instantaneously and automatically without the aid of manual operation, by providing a plurality of distance sensors in an arm or a gate which is not an obstacle to the navigation of the barge. CONSTITUTION:A main body 12 of a measuring device with a rolling stock is laid onto a rail 11 on a wharf 10. The main body 12 is provided with an arm 13 which is able to swing in a vertical direction. There are a plurality of distance sensors 14 provided at required positions of the arm 13. When the barge 1 is moored along the wharf 10, the arm 13 is descended close to sands 7, so that the distance to the sands 7 and also to a deck 17 is measured by the distance sensors 14. The measured value of the distance is inputted to a computer, thereby to obtain the sand volume on the barge.
