Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain composite carbonitride solid soln. having small dispersion in carbon and nitrogen contents, by mixing plural kinds of powder selected among carbide and nitride of group IVa, Va and VIa, by granulating in a fixed grain size and thereafter, by treating for forming solid soln. by heating in a nitrogen stream in a rotary furnace. CONSTITUTION:The two or more kinds of powder selected among carbide and nitride of group IVa, Va and VIa in the periodic table (e.g. TaC powder, TiN powder) are mixed. Then, the mixed powder is granulated into granule having 5-20 mesh the range of grain size and thereafter, dried to prepare raw material powder. Then, the raw material powder is introduced to a rotary furnace and treated for forming the solid soln. by heating at about 1,600-1,800 deg.C in the nitrogen stream to obtain the composite carbonitride solid soln. Thereby, the product having small dispersion in carbon and nitrogen contents is obtd., because the powder can be sufficiently and uniformly brought into contact with nitrogen stream, as a result of treating to solid soln. while stirring with the rotary furnace.
