Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain a high-quality product from an inexpensive raw material, by causing a sialon forming in a heating zone of a reaction container while sending a granulated substance consisting of clay and a carbon material fed in the reaction container together with N2 in the same direction, separating the reaction product from a gas immediately after the reaction.
CONSTITUTION: Clay consisting essentially of Al2O3 and SiO2 is blended with a carbon material and granulated. the granulated raw material 5 is fed to the reaction vessel 1, N2 is also introduced from the pipe 6, and they are sent in the same direction. They are transferred from the preheating zone 11 to the heating zone 12, where N2 and the raw material are heated, to cause a sialon reaction. The reaction product is immediately passed through the porous cylinder 10 in the cooling zone 13, the gas is separated and exhausted from a gas discharge pipe 8. Consequently an impurity of alkali contained in the gas is removed from the product, to improve its quality.
