Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the durability of a gas detector, by forming at least one layer of protecting layers with spinel type double oxides. The change in electric characteristics is taken out with electrodes 4 and 6 as an electric signal. Thus the surrounding environment is detected. Porous protecting layers 8 and 10 are formed so as to cover the upper surface of the electrodes 4 and 6. At least one layer of them protects the electrode. At least one layer of the protecting layers 8 and 10 is formed with a spinel type double oxides. The composition ration between the oxides, which form said double oxides, is different from chemical equivalent. Therefore, a spinel structure is unstable. With the increase in temperature and the like, evaporation of a component having high vapor pressure is accelerated. Therefore, the component of the detecting gas, which is attached to the porous protecting layers 8 and 10, is readily scattered. The composition of the protecting layers 8 and 10 is changed by the evaporation. Since the remaining component becomes the state that is readily scattered, clogging of the protecting layers 8 and 10 is hard to occur.
