Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve durability without impairing magnetic characteristics by using a gaseous mixture composed of Ar and N as a sputtering gas at the time of forming a thin CoCr alloy film by a sputtering method. CONSTITUTION:The effect of improving the durability is obtd. by using the gaseous mixture formed by adding gaseous nitrogen (N) to gaseous argon (Ar) to be normally used at the time of forming the thin metallic film by the sputtering method. The Co and Cr atoms evaporated from a Co-Cr target 5 are deposited on a PET film 2 which is heated to about 130 deg.C and is moved by a can roll 3 by using the gaseous mixture composed of the Ar and N as the sputtering gas at the time of forming the thin CoCr alloy film by the sputtering method on a substrate 2. The durability of the magnetic layer, i.e., the thin CoCr film itself is thereby improved without impairing the characteristics thereof.
