Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain the magnetic recording medium having the magnetic characteristics suitable for the high density recording by forming the thin film of ferromagnetic substance with cluster ion beam vapor deposition method, after discharging process of the surface of the substrate made of polyethylene terephthalate.
CONSTITUTION: The surface of the substrate made of polyethylene terephthalate, under nitrogen gas or ammonium gas atmosphere, the discharge processing such as corona and glow discharge is made to increase the adhesion of the base to the metal ferromagnetic thin film layer. Next, this base is fed to the cluster ion beam device to form the thin film of ferromagnetic substance on the surface of the substrate as the magnetic recording layer through the use of cobalt, alloy including cobalt, and mixture of cobalt and other elements. Thus, the adhering strength between the magnetic recording layer and the substrate is increased and the peeling-resistant and wear-resistant characteristics can be increased.
