Abstract
PURPOSE: To improve signal-to-noise ratio in high range of a Co-based ferromagnetic film using no binder by forming a ferromagnetic layer (formed by vapor coating on a substrate) using Co as a main ingredient and adding an additive consisting mainly of a specified amount of Ni.
CONSTITUTION: Inside a vacuum tank 2 evacuated by a vacuum exhaust system 15 and maintained in an oxidizing atmosphere, a high polymer mole substrate 1 is fed from a reel-off shaft 18 to a take-up shaft 19 through cooling cans 3 and 4. In the positions facing the cans 3 and 4, there are arranged an evaporation material 5 for forming a non-magnetic layer of a thickness of about 0.02W0.05 μ on the substrate 1, a Co evaporation material 6, and a Ni evaporation material 7. The materials are heated by electronic guns 8W10 and evaporated. The guns 9 and 10 are so adjusted that the Co-Ni ferromagnetic layer formed on the substrate 1 will contain 0.01W0.3 wt% of Ni. This binary vapor coating may be replaced with vapor coating of a Co-Ni ingot.
