Abstract
PURPOSE:To prevent the reaction of a high-activity metal and the circumference and to improve casting quality by forming a film layer having non-reactivity with the high-activity metal to the inside peripheral face of a casting mold for casting the high-activity metal. CONSTITUTION:The casting mold body 4A is formed of an ordinary material. The film which has the non-reactivity and is formed on the inside peripheral surface of the mold body is formed by admitting or spraying the ions such as, for example, Al<3+>; Mg<2+>; Ca<2+>; Zr<4+> which are dissolved in water or acid and are treated to a liquid or gaseous state into the cavity of the casting mold body 4A in the atm. to adsorb the ions on the inside surface of the mold body 4A. The mold body 4A is then subjected to a heating treatment in the atm. by which the ions are oxidized in a high-temp. state and the oxide film layer 5 is formed on the inside surface of the mold body 4A. The above-mentioned mold 4 is then used and the molten high- activity metal 3 is admitted into the mold 4 in a vacuum or in a chamber 1 filled with an inert gas. Since the inside peripheral face of the mold 4 in contact with the molten metal 3 is coated with the oxide film layer 5 having the non-reactivity, the high-purity casting of the high-activity metal is obtd. without allowing reaction to take place between the molten metal 3 and the mold 4.
