Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain the title surface treated steel sheet capable of maintaining the soundness of the plating film even when alcohol undergoes deterioration, by laminating an Ni-Fe alloy plating layer and small a Cr plating layer each having a prescribed thickness on at least one side of a steel sheet and by carry ing out heat treatment in a specified temp. range. CONSTITUTION:An Ni-Fe alloy plating layer of 0.5-10mum thickness as a first layer is formed on at least one side of a steel sheet by electroplating, e.g., with an aq. soln. acidified with boric acid. A Cr plating layer of 0.5-10mum thickness as a second layer is then formed on the first layer by electroplating with an acidic aq. soln. such as a sergent bath. The steel sheet having the two plating layers is heat treated in the temp. range of 400-800 deg.C to obtain a surface treated steel sheet for an alcoholic fuel tank having resistance to corrosion by the fuel and superior workability necessary for forming into the tank.
