Abstract

PURPOSE:To produce the aluminum pipe excellent in corrosion resistance by a method wherein an aluminum pipe clad with a zinc-containing aluminum alloy on the inside and/or outside surface thereof is heated at a specified temperature to produce a zinc diffusion layer at the inside and/or outside surface. CONSTITUTION:The aluminum or aluminum-alloy pipe clad with the zinc-containing aluminum alloy on the inside and/or outside surface thereof is produced first. The pipe is heated at a temperature of 400-620 deg.C to produce the zinc diffusion layer as a sacrificial corrosion layer on the inside and/or outside surface of the pipe. The heating time is about 10min - about 10hr and is appropriately selected according to the thickness of the diffusion layer to be produced. The thickness of the diffusion layer is about 40-500mu and the Zn concentration at the surface is preferably not less than about 0.5%.
