Abstract

PURPOSE: To produce the corrosion-resistant steel article inexpensively by a method wherein a steel plate applied with a double coating of Ni and Cu is shaped as required, and then it is maintained at a specified temperature in a nonoxidizing atmosphere to cause the coating constituents to alloy with each other and with the base material.
CONSTITUTION: The steel plate applied with the double coating of Ni and Cu is shaped as required, and then it is maintained at a temperature of 800W1,200°C in a nonoxidizing atmosphere to cause the coating constituents to alloy with each other and with the base material. Althrough Ni plating and Cu plating may be conducted in either order, in general the Ni plating is conducted first, followed by the Cu plating. The composition and the thickness of the alloy layer are regulated by setting the thicknesses of plated Ni and Cu layers to be 0.01W20μ and 0.1W30μ respectively. The plating may be conducted on both sides of the steel plate or on only one side thereof. In addition, a blank steel hoop may be wound into a double- ply coil or a single-ply coil and then subjected to a treatment similar to the above.
