Abstract
PURPOSE:To decrease the number of components, and also, to contrive the reduction of an operation margin, and a design margin of components, by constituting a reference layer so as to always have a stable residual magnetized state in one direction at a room temperature. CONSTITUTION:A recording medium 1 is constituted of a memory layer 2 and a reference layer 3'. The layer 3' is always magnetized upward at a room temperature. In case of writing newly a level '0' to the layer 2, optical power is applied to a medium 1 under a bias magnetic field 6' by a bias magnetic field applying magnet 6, and only the layer 2 is set to a Curie temperature Tc or below. In this case, the first upward magnetized state of the layer 3' is reserved, and the upward magnetization is guided to the layer 2. Subsequently, in case of writing newly a level '1' to the layer 2, optical power is applied to the medium 1 under a magnetic field 6' and the layer 2 is set to the Tc or above. In this case, the layer 3' becomes the downward magnetization, and in the cooling process, the layer 2 also becomes the downward magnetization. The downward magnetization of the layer 3' returns to the upward magnetization, when the influence by the magnetic field 6' becomes small together with the traveling of the medium 1.
